DESCRIPTIVE STATEMENT:
This is a non-exempt, temporary, part-time position, limited to 1300 hours annually, under supervision of the Recreation Supervisor and/or Coordinator. Sports staff members are responsible for all participants in a program area and the implementation of all activities at the site assigned to include, but not limited to enforcing rules, regulations, and proper sports guideline, while engaging and interacting with participants and public, and creating a fun structured environment.
This job description is an overview and is intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed. It is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all the functions and tasks required for the position.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Perform score keeping and bookkeeping for youth and adult sport programs.
  • Carry out weekly program activities.
  • Establish a positive rapport with all participants in programs.
  • Attend all staff meetings and training sessions, including any state-mandated courses.
  • Responsible for maintaining equipment and supplies.
  • Maintains cleanliness of equipment and facilities.

IMPORTANT FUNCTIONS:
  • Ensure accurate attendance records are always kept current.
  • Responsible for umpiring, officiating, and game time management for youth and adult sports programs.
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
  • May perform the duties of similar classifications at an equal or lower pay grade.

PHYSICAL STANDARDS:
  • Ability to stand, walk, and engage in physical activities for extended periods.
  • Must have the ability to lift and move equipment and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds with or without accommodation.
  • Demonstrated agility and flexibility for sports activities and facilitating game-related movements.
  • Adequate vision and hearing to supervise activities and respond to safety concerns.
  • Proficient use of hands for scorekeeping, handling equipment, and maintaining facilities.
  • Commitment to adhering to safety protocols and wearing appropriate attire and gear.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of operations, services, and activities of an assigned program area.
  • Knowledge of recreation, sports, and youth/teen programming.
  • Ability to implement goals and objectives for providing services.
  • Ability to provide directions to program participants and communicate with participants, spectators, and parent/guardians.
  • Ability to interpret and apply rules and regulations in assigned program areas.
  • Ability to ensure program compliance with mandated City policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Ability to work successfully with and provide good customer service to supervisors, other City employees, the public and other agencies and organizations.
  • Ability to perform all the job duties in a safe manner.
  • The individual must be willing and able to work a flexible schedule which may include mornings, nights, weekdays, weekends, and holidays

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
In addition to the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed above, this position requires the following:
  • Must be at least 16 years of age by the date of hire.
  • Previous experience working with teens or youth is preferred.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
This position involves regular exposure to noise, inclement weather, temperature extremes, and extended direct expose to the sun.
All required licenses and certifications must be maintained throughout the term of employment. Failure to obtain or maintain licenses and certifications may result in demotion or termination.
Due to Federal and State Criminal Justice System access requirements, classifications that access and maintain criminal justice information may also be required, as a condition of employment, to not have been convicted of and/or have pending charges of a felony or misdemeanor crime that would deny or otherwise restrict access to criminal justice information. City of Pueblo Temporary and Seasonal Employee Sick Leave Benefits
Beginning January 1, 2021, all employers in Colorado are required to provide paid sick leave to employees under the Healthy Families and Workplaces Act ("HFWA"). Said leave is accrued at one hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked, up to a maximum of 48 hours.
Per the Act, leave may be used for any of the following reasons:
  • The employee has a mental or physical illness, injury, or health condition; needs a medical diagnosis, care, or treatment related to such illness, injury, or condition; or needs to obtain preventive medical care.
  • The employee needs to care for a family member who has a mental or physical illness, injury, or health condition; needs a medical diagnosis, care, or treatment related to such illness, injury, or condition; or needs to obtain preventive medical care.
  • The employee or family member has been the victim of domestic abuse, sexual assault, or harassment and needs to be absent from work for purposes related to such crime; or
  • A public official has ordered the closure of the school or place of care of the employee's child or of the employee's place of business due to a public health emergency, necessitating the employee's absence from work.

Consistent with the HWFA, part-time temporary and seasonal employees of the City shall not carry forward more than forty-eight (48) hours of unused sick leave from one year to the next.

City employment as a temporary or seasonal employee means that the most you can expect to work is 1300 hours in a calendar year. Depending on the work schedule required by the hiring department, this means more time to spend with your family and/or doing other activities.
