Job Summary
Provides entry level technical support to the Information Technology Department, with a primary focus on IT asset management, equipment deployment, documentation, inventory, and project support. Works closely with the IT Systems Supervisor and technical staff to assist with daily technology operations and departmental projects.
Essential Job Functions
  • Works closely with the IT Systems Supervisor and technical staff to assist in various activities performed within the department.
  • Assist with IT asset management and tracking (computers, monitors, mobile devices, peripherals, software licenses).
  • Assist technical staff with documentation, testing, data entry, cable management, and other project-related tasks.
  • Provide support on IT projects as assigned (equipment rollouts, software deployments, office moves, classroom or lab refreshes, etc.).
  • Perform related duties as required to support the IT department's goals and service levels.
  • Responds regularly and promptly to work.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Must possess a High School Diploma or GED, plus additional college coursework directly related to Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Cyber Security or a closely related field.
  • No experience required, however, applicant should have some knowledge of computer maintenance and how to provide assistance within a current Windows and Microsoft Office environment.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of:
  • Information technology systems and processes, network infrastructure, data architecture, data processes, and protocols.

Ability to:
  • Assist with IT asset management and tracking (computers, monitors, mobile devices, peripherals, software licenses).
  • Support inventory audits, asset tagging, receiving/shipping of equipment, and maintenance of accurate asset records in the inventory system.
  • Help prepare surplus or end-of-life equipment for disposition according to department procedures.
  • Help install, configure, image, and deploy desktop/laptop computers, mobile devices, printers, and other end-user equipment.
  • Perform routine software installations, updates, and basic troubleshooting following established procedures.
  • Assists the IT Department to deliver technology support.
  • Demonstrate collaborative, respectful, and productive work habits.
  • Present a professional appearance and demeanor.
  • Organize workload; establish priorities; and meet established deadlines and standards of work output.
  • Maintain the absolute confidentiality of sensitive files, data, and materials accessed, discussed, or observed while working with City staff.
  • Be constantly alert and aware of safe working practices and workplace hazards.
  • Comply with City and department administrative directives, policies, and procedures.
  • Demonstrate satisfactory performance and regular, reliable, and punctual attendance.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work and communicate effectively with the public and other required entities.

Licenses, Certifications & Special Requirements
Licenses:
  • Texas Class C driver's license with a good driving record as measured by the City's evaluation system.

Special Requirements:
  • Must be able to access Texas Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) System data. As a result, the person selected for the position cannot possess a felony or Class A misdemeanor conviction; or a Class B misdemeanor conviction within the past 10 years.

Certifications:
  • Additional certifications such as CompTIA (A+, Network+, Project+, Security+) are a plus.

Physical Demands
Physical demands include but are not limited to: sitting, talking, hearing, seeing, standing, walking, driving, bending, reaching, twisting, pushing, pulling, climbing, and using hands and fingers to operate office equipment and machines, and occasionally lifting and/or moving objects up to and including 25 pounds.
Working Conditions
Work is performed primarily in an office setting or a well-lighted and temperature-controlled working environment.
Occasional outdoor fieldwork is required. There is exposure to inclement weather, temperature extremes, moving mechanical parts, electrical hazards, noise, vibration, dust, fumes, odors, and/or other irritating airborne particles.
Equipment
Work shall be performed with tools, appliances, and equipment approved by those agencies and bodies that have control, authority, or approval of the design working ranges or limitations of those items; the employee has the responsibility to conform to those ranges and limitations.
Equipment may include but is not limited to: computers (desktops/laptops/tablets), monitors, printers, phones (desktop and mobile), copiers, scanners, fax machines, city vehicles, and various other office/computer related tools and equipment.
