Temp Tech Support information

What is a temp tech support?

Temp Tech Support jobs are temporary positions where individuals provide technical assistance and support to users experiencing issues with computers, software, or other technology. These roles are often short-term, lasting from a few days to several months, and are commonly used to fill in during staff shortages, busy periods, or specific projects. Temp Tech Support professionals troubleshoot problems, install software, and help users resolve technical difficulties, often working remotely or on-site. This type of work is ideal for those looking to gain experience in IT or who need flexible, short-term employment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a temp tech support?

To thrive as a Temp Tech Support, you need a solid understanding of computer systems, troubleshooting methodologies, and basic networking concepts, often supported by a relevant associate degree or equivalent experience. Familiarity with ticketing systems, remote desktop tools, and common operating systems like Windows and macOS is typically required. Strong problem-solving skills, patience, and clear verbal and written communication set top candidates apart in this role. These skills and qualities are crucial for efficiently resolving user issues, maintaining productivity, and ensuring positive user experiences.

What are the most common challenges faced by temp tech support professionals, and how can they prepare to overcome them?

Temp Tech Support professionals often encounter the challenge of quickly adapting to new systems, tools, and company protocols due to the temporary nature of their assignments. They may also need to rapidly build rapport with team members and end-users while efficiently resolving technical issues. To overcome these challenges, it’s helpful to have strong foundational knowledge in troubleshooting, excellent communication skills, and a proactive approach to learning company-specific processes. Being adaptable and asking clarifying questions early can also ease the transition and help deliver effective support.

NOW HIRING: IT SUPPORT SPECIALIST

Experienced IT Support Professional | Opportunity for Technical Leadership

Department: Information Technology

Location: On-site only | 531 Old Swede Road, Douglassville, PA 19518 (No remote work available)

Schedule: Monday–Friday 8:00AM-4:30PM | Full-time on-site

Compensation: Competitive hourly rate based on experience, technical capability, education, certifications, and market data

Build Your Career With ACECO

We are looking for an IT Support Specialist who can independently troubleshoot complex user, workstation, software, and connectivity issues; take ownership of problems through resolution; improve how support is delivered; and become a trusted technical resource for employees and other members of the IT team.

For the right candidate, this position also offers the opportunity to function as an informal technical lead within IT Support helping coordinate priorities, sharing knowledge, supporting less experienced team members, and raising the overall quality and consistency of day-to-day support.

This is not a people-management position. The strongest candidate will still want to remain hands-on while naturally providing technical leadership through experience, judgment, communication, and example. If you are already the person coworkers turn to when the easy troubleshooting steps do not work, this role may be a strong fit for you.

You will not get lost here. Your work will be seen, and it will matter.

What This Role Really Is

This is a hands-on IT support position with the opportunity for meaningful technical ownership.

You will investigate hardware, software, access, workstation, network-connectivity, and system-related issues; configure and deploy technology; document support activity; assist users with new systems; and help maintain reliable daily technology operations across ACECO.

We are particularly interested in candidates who have progressed beyond basic help-desk support and can independently investigate unfamiliar problems, determine when escalation is appropriate, communicate clearly with users, and help others develop stronger troubleshooting habits.

Depending on experience and demonstrated capability, you may also become a go-to resource for day-to-day support priorities, recurring technical issues, documentation standards, workstation deployment practices, and knowledge sharing across the IT team.

Who Thrives Here — and Who Does Not

You will do well here if you:

  • Take ownership of technical problems through complete resolution
  • Are comfortable troubleshooting beyond scripted or basic help-desk steps
  • Naturally become someone teammates ask for help when an issue gets difficult
  • Can explain technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical employees
  • Stay patient and professional when users are frustrated or need step-by-step assistance
  • Look for root causes instead of repeatedly applying temporary fixes
  • Maintain accurate documentation and expect the same level of discipline from others
  • Enjoy sharing knowledge and helping less experienced team members develop
  • Can prioritize competing support needs without needing constant direction
  • Want technical leadership opportunities without moving into formal people management

This role is likely not a fit if you:

  • Want to work remotely from home
  • Prefer resolving only routine Tier 1 requests
  • Escalate problems before performing meaningful troubleshooting
  • Avoid documentation or knowledge sharing
  • Prefer highly isolated technical work with limited employee interaction
  • Need frequent direction to determine what should be worked on next
  • Want a management title more than you want to remain technically hands-on
  • Are unwilling to assist outside normal hours when a serious system or network issue affects operations

What Success Looks Like in the First 90 Days

First 30 Days

  • Learn ACECO's technology environment, systems, support processes, security expectations, and business operations
  • Build relationships with employees across Engineering, Manufacturing, Field Service, Sales, Accounting, HR, and other departments
  • Begin independently resolving workstation, hardware, software, access, and connectivity issues
  • Learn current ticketing, documentation, deployment, and escalation practices
  • Identify recurring support issues and opportunities to improve documentation or processes

Days 31–60

  • Independently own more complex support requests from investigation through resolution
  • Support workstation deployments, onboarding, system changes, and user training
  • Troubleshoot network-connectivity and broader system issues within appropriate scope
  • Help improve technical documentation and repeatable troubleshooting procedures
  • Become a reliable escalation resource for difficult day-to-day support issues
  • Begin sharing technical knowledge and troubleshooting approaches with other team members

Days 61–90

  • Operate as a trusted technical resource for employees and the IT team
  • Help prioritize or coordinate support activities when multiple issues compete for attention
  • Identify root causes behind recurring technical problems and recommend solutions
  • Support consistency in ticket documentation, workstation configuration, and end-user support practices
  • Contribute to broader IT projects and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Where appropriate, demonstrate readiness to function as an informal technical lead without formal supervisory responsibility

Why Join Our Team at American Crane?

Technical Ownership

You will be trusted to investigate problems, make sound technical decisions within your scope, and follow issues through resolution.

Leadership Without Management

Experienced specialists can influence how work gets done, mentor teammates, improve standards, and become trusted technical resources without leaving hands-on IT behind.

Broad Technical Exposure

Support employees across Engineering, Manufacturing, Field Service, Sales, Accounting, Human Resources, and other business functions.

Beyond Basic Help Desk

The role includes workstation support, software, hardware, connectivity, documentation, security awareness, user training, system support, and broader IT projects.

Visible Impact

When technology fails, work slows down. Your ability to restore reliable systems directly affects business operations.

Industrial Technology Environment

Support technology within an engineering and manufacturing organization where IT intersects with office operations, manufacturing, security, compliance, and field operations.

What You Will Do

Advanced End-User Support

  • Investigate and resolve hardware, software, access, workstation, peripheral, and connectivity issues
  • Take ownership of support requests through complete resolution
  • Troubleshoot beyond standard scripts when problems require deeper investigation
  • Communicate clearly with technical and non-technical users
  • Identify when issues require escalation and provide useful troubleshooting documentation when escalating
  • Confirm resolution and user functionality before closing requests

Workstation & Endpoint Support

  • Install, configure, deploy, and support desktops, laptops, monitors, peripherals, mobile devices, and related equipment
  • Support Microsoft Windows operating systems and Microsoft 365 applications
  • Coordinate workstation replacements, employee moves, onboarding, and equipment changes
  • Troubleshoot printers, accessories, connectivity, and endpoint-related issues
  • Maintain accurate equipment and configuration records

Network & Systems Support

  • Troubleshoot workstation, network-access, and connectivity issues
  • Support existing network programs, equipment, systems, and capabilities
  • Assist with broader system-support requirements based on experience and scope
  • Help identify security, access, configuration, and operational concerns
  • Participate in system upgrades, deployments, and IT projects

Ticket Management & Documentation

  • Document, prioritize, track, and monitor support requests through resolution
  • Record troubleshooting steps, root causes, solutions, configuration changes, and user communications
  • Develop and improve internal technical documentation and knowledge resources
  • Identify recurring problems that should be addressed systematically rather than ticket by ticket
  • Help reinforce consistent support and documentation practices

User Training & Communication

  • Help employees understand new software, systems, and technology changes
  • Develop or improve user instructions and support resources
  • Translate technical concepts into practical, understandable guidance
  • Reinforce appropriate cybersecurity, system-use, and information-security practices

Technical Leadership — Non-Supervisory

Depending on experience and demonstrated capability, responsibilities may also include:

  • Serve as a go-to technical resource for other IT support team members
  • Help less experienced employees troubleshoot unfamiliar or more complex issues
  • Share technical knowledge, lessons learned, and support best practices
  • Help coordinate day-to-day support priorities when needed
  • Identify opportunities to improve support processes, documentation, and standards
  • Provide technical input into workstation, endpoint, software, and support-related decisions
  • Lead by example through responsiveness, documentation, professionalism, and follow-through
  • Support the IT Manager without assuming formal personnel-management responsibilities

This role requires availability to work full-time hours on-site (no remote work available) Monday–Friday, 8:00AM–4:30PM.

Candidates should be located within a reasonable daily commuting distance of:

  • Strong customer service and communication with non-technical users
  • Professional judgment and discretion
  • Strong technical documentation habits
  • Ability to prioritize multiple issues based on urgency and business impact
  • Willingness and ability to mentor or support less experienced team members
  • Technical leadership through influence rather than formal authority
  • Reliability, responsiveness, and follow-through
  • Commitment to continuous learning and improvement
  • Alignment with Safety, Quality, Continuous Improvement, and GRIT

Education

  • Associate degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related discipline preferred
