Maintain Gary Community School Corporation Facilities. Performs activities in mixing paint, preparing surface of object to be painted, painting object and drying of paint on object.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The list of duties and responsibilities is illustrative only, and is not a comprehensive listing of all the duties and responsibilities performed by this position.
  • Performs all duties of Journeyman Painter.
  • Determines existing finishes to assure that new finishes will adhere.
  • Works around faculty and students without creating a disturbance.
  • Finishes / refinishes components such as cabinets, shelving and other wood or metal products.
  • Participates in interior and exterior decorating.
  • Refinishes flagpoles and furniture.
  • Remarks or relines gym floors, parking areas, play areas, tennis courts.
  • Performs sandblasting.
  • Performs spray type painting, sign painting; paper hanging and dry wall finishing.
  • Maintains paint department equipment and tools in safe and operational manner.
  • Drives vehicle assigned to the paint department when required.
  • Maintains regular attendance and punctuality.
  • Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective working environment.

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:
  • Approved finishing methods, code requirements and safety standards.
  • Equipment, materials and tools used by a painter.

Skill in:
  • Communicating with staff and administration.
  • Using a computer and related software applications.
  • Using modern office equipment.

Ability to:
  • Physically perform heavy lifting.
  • Perform work inside and outside in high places.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or equivalent. Must be a Journeyman Painter having completed the apprenticeship program and must have five (5) or more years experience as a painter or must have ten (10) or more years of qualified experience as a painter with Local Painters Union Membership Card. Must have a thorough knowledge of surface preparation for painting or wall coverings. Must have a thorough knowledge of paint tinting. Must have a thorough knowledge of preparation and installation for wall covering.
CERTIFICATION
Must have a valid driver's license; may be expected to drive a maintenance vehicle.
