What is a temp server?

Temp servers, or temporary servers, are individuals who work in the food and beverage industry on a short-term basis, often through staffing agencies. They typically fill in for permanent staff during busy periods, special events, or staff shortages. Their duties include taking orders, serving food and drinks, setting up and cleaning tables, and ensuring guests have a positive dining experience. Temp servers need to be adaptable, quick learners, and able to provide excellent customer service in various settings. To thrive as a Temp Server, you need strong customer service skills, basic food safety knowledge, and experience in hospitality environments, often supported by a food handler's permit. Familiarity with point-of-sale (POS) systems, order management software, and standard restaurant tools is typically expected. Excellent communication, adaptability, and teamwork are standout soft skills in this fast-paced role. These abilities ensure efficient service, customer satisfaction, and smooth operations across different dining settings.
