Job description

Robotics Test EngineerJob Overview

This position is responsible for hands-on testing, characterization, and performance evaluation of actuators, robotic manipulators, and multi-axis motion systems. The engineer will plan and execute motion performance tests across multiple control modes, collect and analyze data, maintain test infrastructure, and support the integration and bring-up of new robotic prototypes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Execute and evaluate motion performance testing on actuators, robotic arms, and multi-axis robotic systems.
  • Operate and validate systems across position, velocity, torque/force, and impedance control modes.
  • Set up and calibrate test equipment, including encoders, force/torque sensors, IMUs, and motion capture systems.
  • Collect, analyze, and report performance data to identify anomalies and support root-cause investigations.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot test fixtures, dynamometers, and lab equipment.
  • Support prototype integration, wiring, and system bring-up activities.
  • Develop automated test procedures and collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to establish test requirements and acceptance criteria.

MUST HAVES:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics or a related engineering field
  • Experience configuring and executing performance testing across multiple robotic control modes.
  • Experience testing:
    • Robotic systems
    • Servo motors
    • Brushless DC motors
    • Linear actuators
    • Closed-loop motion control systems
  • Hands-on experience with:
    • Encoders
    • Force/torque sensors
    • Accelerometers
    • Data acquisition systems
  • Proficiency with data analysis and scripting tools such as:
    • Python
    • MATLAB
    • Similar platforms
    • Familiarity with Linux/Unix operating systems.

NICE TO HAVES:

  • Experience with automated test frameworks and hardware-in-the-loop CI/CD testing.
  • Experience with motor drive tuning, including:
    • PID control
    • Feedforward control
    • Gain scheduling
    • Servo commissioning tools
  • Knowledge of:
    • Vibration analysis
    • Frequency-domain characterization
    • System identification techniques
  • 5+ years of experience in:
    • Robotics testing
    • Motion control
    • Electromechanical systems validation

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $42.13 - $78.00/hr.
