Job description

Bread for the World is a Christian advocacy organization urging U.S. decision makers to do all they can to pursue a world without hunger. Our mission is to educate and equip people to advocate for policies and programs that can help end hunger in the U.S. and around the world. The Karen Sue Smith and Rose DiMartino Internship Program enables you to contribute your efforts to this mission while benefiting from opportunities for supervised learning, personal development, and gain work experience.

DEPARTMENT: Development

REPORTS TO: Donor Services Coordinator

SEMESTER: Fall (Sept. - Dec. 2026)

SCHEDULE: Part-Time: 22.5 hours per week

APPLY BY: Sept. 4th 2026


PRIMARY PURPOSE: Development needs an engaged individual who is interested in learning about various aspects of development through hands-on experience. We will need support during a critical time of year in preparation for end of year fundraising. Interns will learn about many aspects of the fundraising process in a nonprofit organization.

  1. Assist with Foundation fundraising by:
    1. Researching grant prospects and writing briefings
  2. Assist with major donor fundraising by:
    1. Conducting donor research, including church contacts
    2. Calling donors to say thank you, or encourage continued church support
    3. Doing data cleanup in the database
    4. Keeping staff up to date on Bread updates for donor stewardship
  3. Assist membership fundraising with:
    1. Filling and administrative support
    2. Improving donor experience through customer service
  4. Participate in department meetings
  5. Work on additional projects as requested

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

  • Pursuing a BA or BS degree with some prior office work experience
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office Suite, database software and Internet research
  • Experience with Raisers’ Edge database a plus
  • Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills (written, oral, and electronic)
  • Administrative and fundraising experience preferred
  • Willingness to learn
  • Commitment to the mission of Bread for the World
