Schedule: M-F, 9am-5pm

Salary Range: Commensurate with experience


Mission: The Dallas Museum of Art is a space of wonder and discovery where art comes alive.


The DMA will:

  • Place art and our diverse communities at the center around which all activities radiate.
  • Pursue excellence in collecting and programming, present works of art across cultures and time, and be a driving force in contemporary art.
  • Strengthen our position as a prominent, innovative institution, expanding the meaning and possibilities of learning and creativity.

Scope of the Position:

The Director of Membership leads the strategy and comprehensive plan for the DMA Membership Program to include the DMA Members, DMA Circle, and various DMA affinity groups ranging from $120 to $25,000. The Director of Membership will oversee the membership teams to expand the Museum's membership base, ensure sustained growth, deliver exceptional customer service, and promote the mission of the DMA. Responsibilities include oversight of membership acquisition, renewal, upgrade, a robust calendar of offerings, communication, recognition, data and financial management, and annual solicitation.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Working with Membership and DMA Circle teams (gifts of membership ranging from $120 - $25,000), implement strategies for donor retention and acquisition; evaluate and report on the effectiveness of these strategies.
  • Create strategies for Annual Fund and identify opportunities for growth.
  • Develop Membership Department goals and regularly monitor progress toward goals, making adjustments as needed.
  • Implement yearly and quarterly financial projections as part of the budgeting process.
  • Working with Membership, DMA Circle, and Special Events teams, create the annual slate of member offerings and benefits to ensure member engagement that is consistently focused on retention and revenue growth.
  • Manage membership vendors to include evaluation of partnerships to ensure that goals and expectations are met.
  • Oversee data strategies within the membership CRM system. 
  • Collaborating with other Museum departments, oversee production of all membership marketing materials, communications, and correspondence to run an effective member program with engaged membership.
  • Refine and create suite of reports for membership that demonstrate past and current activity, while also informing future decision-making.
  • Hire and train new membership staff as needed through clearly outlined training program and documentation.
  • Ensure front-line staff members are properly trained to provide a clear and consistent member experience.
  • Oversee DMA Circle program to provide excellent stewardship in all communications.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements


Education, Experience, & Certifications:

  • 5+ years progressively responsible experience in membership, annual giving, fundraising, or related development roles, including supervisory or management experience.
  • Prior experience in a non-profit arts or cultural organization preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and Raisers Edge software.

Key Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated record of successful leadership, preferably within an art museum or cultural institution membership program.
  • Prior experience supervising staff to support departmental goals.
  • A proven ability to cultivate, solicit, and secure annual member gifts and to bring creative and effective strategies to the fundraising process.
  • A motivated self-starter with an entrepreneurial drive, demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and creative disposition to generate new ideas and strategies that help to build a dynamic, compelling program.
  • Persuasive and effective skills in writing, speaking, project management, and use of digital content platforms.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, as well as Raisers Edge software or comparable CRM/database.
  • Strong financial literacy, with an understanding of numbers and an ability to track, analyze, and share financial data in an accurate and comprehensive way.
  • Willingness to work nights and weekends to support activities and programming.
