SUMMARY:

LAUKOA is currently seeking applicants to fill our Provider (Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant) position for administrative services supporting the Louisiana Army National Guard (LAARNG) State Surgeon's Office. The Provider shall review medical documentation and make medical readiness determination recommendations based on Army regulations on the retainability or deployability of a service member. The Provider shall be knowledgeable in most aspects of medical care and qualified in their respective functional areas.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide recommendations on fitness for duty IAW AR 40-501 and AR 40-502 along with identifying needs for further actions through the MAR2, MEB, or NDR-PEB.
  • Draft line of duty (LOD) recommendations for the State Surgeon review.
  • Perform initial interview with service member and conduct interviews regarding their medical status.
  • Document all interactions about medical topics with a service member in the service member's medical record.
  • Create temporary and initiate permanent profiles for service members based on medical documentation from their civilian provider or military treatment facility. Route profiles to appropriate personnel for 2nd signatures.
  • Review, document, and digitally sign Medical Health Assessments.
  • Ensure Service Members understand their medical readiness responsibilities.
  • Educate service members on resources available to improve medical/dental readiness.
  • Establish and utilize listing of local resources to ensure soldiers have available alternative options to military health benefits.
  • Maintain proficiency with Army National Guard regulations and policies as they apply to LAANG Service Members.
  • Maintain service member's medical records in accordance with Army Regulation (AR) 40-66.
  • Responsible for understanding web-based electronic data systems via MODS and MEDCHART
  • Obtain release of information form in accordance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). Responsible for protecting the confidential nature of service member's files and medical issues. Provide information about privacy rights and have service members sign consents
  • Conduct physical health assessments at Tier 3 medical readiness events and scheduled medical readiness events scheduled at Camp Beauregard, Pineville, LA and TMC at Jackson Barracks.
  • Identify any behavioral health case management to the Director of Psychological Health by the 5th of each month in the Behavioral Health report in the Behavioral health portal of MEDCHART
  • Provide support to the State Surgeon/Deputy State Surgeons' office to find SMs that may have been erroneously identified as not fit-for-duty.
  • Prepare medical or administrative separation documentation for those Service Members no longer fit-for-duty
  • Review medical documentation and make recommendations based on Army regulations on the ability to be retained or deployed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Active Nurse practitioner or a Physician Assistant licensed in the state, without restrictions
  • Physician Assistant (PA) shall be licensed through the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners and maintain a NCCPA certification.
  • Nurse Practitioner (NP) shall be licensed through the Louisiana State Board of Nursing
  • CPR/BLS Certification
  • A valid US driver's license
  • Knowledge of common assessment tools used by medical/dental professionals to complete evaluations
  • Excellent customer service skills and experience interacting with difficult clientele face to face, via email, and on the telephone
  • Shall have the ability to work independently without supervision and also as part of a team
  • Personal Computer (PC) proficiency, specifically Microsoft Teams, Outlook, SharePoint, Word, and Excel
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changes quickly
  • Ability to work for lengthy periods and perform accurately with adequate speed
  • Must submit no less than two professional references with a resume

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Working knowledge of the regulations and policies that apply to Individual Medical Readiness (IMR) and deployment
  • Experience working in a Military setting
  • Previous Common Access Card (CAC) holder

WORK SCHEDULE:

  • Services are performed twice each month:
    • Second Thursday: Camp Beauregard, Pineville, Louisiana
    • Third Thursday: Jackson Barracks, New Orleans, Louisiana


  • Additional support may be required for approved Medical Readiness Events and other mission requirements.
