Overview

Johns Hopkins Intrastaff is the internal staffing agency for the Johns Hopkins Health System and partner hospitals, providing temporary support to a variety of the Johns Hopkins locations. Responsibilities

Offer courteous, exemplary, and confidential customer service to every patient to ensure that the patient experience care at Johns Hopkins Outpatient Palliative Medicine Clinics is patient centered.  This role focuses on coordinating the day-to-day clinical operations of a group of healthcare professionals.  Troubleshoot and resolve problems as they arise; collaborate with others to resolve concerns or refer patients to appropriate resources.  In addition, maintain accurate information on each patient to facilitate the patient encounter.  Use automated systems to expedite patient scheduling and pre-registration and support telemedicine visits.  The individual must display the core values of Johns Hopkins Medicine.  The candidate must be able to multitask in a fast-paced environment and communicate effectively with patients, team members, and leadership.

  • Communicate as needed to any referring providers regarding patient appointments and necessary paperwork
  • Schedule new and follow-up clinic appointments and assist in canceling and rescheduling clinics.
  • Collect insurance information and complete registration in Epic.
  • Coordinate follow-up office visits as requested by the provider.
  • Utilize the electronic medical record and run EPIC reports to identify patients who need follow-up appointments.
  • Complete courtesy calls to patients to remind them of appointment arrival times, answer non-clinical questions about the location, parking, and educate them on how to join a telemedicine visit in MyChart (if applicable).
  • Maintain knowledge of allowable telemedicine practices from state to state.  
  • Refer the patient to appropriate resources or clinical areas (if applicable).
  • Manage the department work queues and In Basket in a timely manner in Epic.
  • Conduct follow-up calls on No Show appointments and send letters to patients as needed.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of insurance information on the Johns Hopkins Managed Care website.
  • Assist with basic insurance and third-party queries and explain payment policies.
  • Answer basic patient questions about billing (may be subject to copays or deductibles; check with your insurance) and refer to JHU Physician Billing Services and JHH Patient Financial Services.
Qualifications

Minimum of High school diploma or equivalent required.

The position requires  3-4 years of work experience in a similar service-oriented industry, with a preference for ambulatory healthcare experience.  Additional education can substitute for one year of experience.

Requires successful interpersonal and communication skills with patients, families, physicians, and other healthcare team members to foster optimal quality of outpatient care.

Ability to use computer keyboard functions to input and obtain data.

Knowledge of business, insurance and/or medical terminology and an excellent command of English grammar and spelling.

EPIC Certification through Johns Hopkins training will be required prior to starting the temporary assignment.
