Job description

Nurse Practitioner-OB/GYN

The Nurse Practitioner-OB/GYN manages and coordinates nursing and patient care management for in collaboration with physicians/interdisciplinary team. This position provides diagnostic, as well as therapeutic intervention and day-to-day evaluation, including diagnostic and pharmacologic intervention under the direction of a physician. The Nurse Practitioner implements and coordinates plans of care to address the physical, emotional, and psychosocial needs of patients and families and serves as the informational resource to patients, families, and staff. The Nurse Practitioner also makes appropriate physician and allied health care referrals.

Responsibilities

Evaluate and manage uncomplicated Obstetrical patients, including prenatal and postpartum care. (Does not include labor and delivery, admitting, or operating room privileges.)

  • Monitor fetal well-being with fetal Doppler and blood tests at office visits.
  • Order and evaluate fetal surveillance with ultrasound and non-stress testing.
  • Maintain professional skills and knowledge of guidelines to manage care of pregnancies with associated conditions such as gestational diabetes, chronic hypertension, obesity, prior cesarean, anemia, substance abuse, and conditions of comparable complexity.
  • Recognize and refer high-risk patients according to established policies.
  • Provide group prenatal care for cohorts of patients with similar social or educational concerns.
  • Evaluate and treat Gynecologic patients including attention to all systems, with focus on breast and cervical health. Treatment of vulvo-vaginitis, cervicitis, etc.
  • Evaluate and manage referred patients for gynecologic conditions such as abnormal uterine bleeding, polycystic ovary, pelvic pain, menopausal symptoms, and urinary incontinence. Recognize conditions requiring referral to gynecology physician for surgical or medical treatment.
  • Provide family planning care, including counseling all available methods of temporary and permanent birth control.
  • Prescribe and manage oral, transdermal, injections, and vaginal hormonal methods.
  • Insert and remove Nexplanon.
  • Insert and remove IUDs and implants.
  • Counsel and refer for surgical permanent methods.
  • Evaluate patients by ordering and reviewing gyn ultrasounds to determine diagnosis and plan of care and microscopic exam of bacterial and fungal smears.
  • Procedures which may be performed by some Women's Health Nurse Practitioners are:
    • Endometrial, vulvar and punch biopsies
    • I & D of abscess
    • Pessary placement
    • colposcopy
Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited school of nursing with a Master of Science degree or or accredited school for Physician Assistants

Current Indiana license or eligible for one

Collaborative agreement with affiliated physician group

Current Indiana Controlled Substance and Drug Enforcement Registration
