Job description

About the Role

Express Employment Professionals is partnering with a local manufacturing company in the Malaga/Wenatchee area to add a Grain Refinement Laboratory Technologist. This is a temporary assignment of undetermined length with opportunities for added training and potential long-term employment depending on business needs. Permanent employment is not guaranteed.

Pay: $19.00–$20.00/hr
Schedule: 4:00 AM–12:30 PM (set, not flexible)
Location: Malaga, WA
Anticipated Start Date: August 31, 2026

A Day in This Role

Before sunrise, you arrive ready to keep quality operations moving. You’ll stage and prepare production samples, verify labels, and begin grain refining tests precisely at 4:00 AM—because other lab and quality functions depend on your timely results. Through the morning, you’ll cast and etch samples, examine microstructures under a microscope, and capture accurate data for reporting. You’ll wrap up by maintaining instruments, organizing records, and ensuring the lab is stocked and clean for the next shift.

What You’ll Handle
  • Prepare and label samples for testing and evaluation.
  • Execute grain refining tests following established procedures.
  • Review production samples for correctness and proper identification.
  • Stage materials for Chemistry, Metallography, and Grain Refining work.
  • Cast and etch grain refining samples; analyze microstructures via microscope.
  • Record results and complete accurate data entry; maintain thorough lab records.
  • Care for lab equipment, supplies, and work areas.
  • Follow safety, quality, and laboratory protocols.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned.
What You Bring
  • Reliable, dependable attendance; punctuality is essential for downstream processes.
  • Strong attention to detail and procedural discipline.
  • Comfort with a strict 4:00 AM–12:30 PM schedule.
  • Basic math and computer skills; familiarity with Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Ability to read and follow written procedures and work instructions.
  • Work effectively independently and within a team.
  • Associate degree or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Previous laboratory, manufacturing, quality, production, or technical experience is a plus.
  • Current driver’s license.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Comfort working around heat, moving equipment, fumes, airborne particles, and chemicals.
  • Proficiency expectations: High School/GED, strong communication, manufacturing environment familiarity, and basic computer literacy.
Growth & Next Steps

You may have opportunities to cross-train in Wet Lab and Metallography/microscope-focused work. These areas may follow different day-shift schedules; future flexibility will help you take advantage of training. Qualified candidates may be invited for a pre-start facility tour and a meeting with the Quality Manager as part of the selection process.
