Pay: $20/hr

Position Summary: The Masker is responsible for preparing parts and components for surface treatments, coatings, and finishes in compliance with strict NADCAP certification standards. This role involves the accurate and efficient application of masking materials to ensure that non-designated areas of components are protected during processing, ensuring part integrity and quality.

Core Responsibilities:
  • Apply Masking Materials: Select and apply appropriate masking materials (tape, plugs, caps, etc.) to parts and assemblies, ensuring proper coverage and protection during the surface treatment process (e.g., plating, anodizing, coating, etc.).
  • Understand and Follow NADCAP Requirements: Ensure all masking practices adhere to NADCAP guidelines and the specific requirements for aerospace and defense parts.
  • Inspect Parts: Before masking, perform thorough visual inspections of parts for cleanliness, surface defects, and readiness for the masking process.
  • Collaboration with Production and Quality Teams: Communicate regularly with production and quality assurance teams to ensure masking is done according to specifications and timelines. Address any issues related to masking or part quality.
  • Maintain Process Documentation: Accurately document the masking process, including the materials used, time spent, and any deviations from standard procedures. Ensure traceability for each part through detailed logs.
  • Perform Quality Checks: Conduct routine inspections to ensure masking has been applied securely and meets quality standards. Address any flaws or issues before parts proceed to the next step in the production process.
  • Ensure Cleanliness and Safety: Maintain a clean and organized workspace, ensuring all tools and equipment are in proper working order. Follow all safety procedures and wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
  • Assist in Process Improvements: Provide feedback on masking techniques, suggesting improvements to increase efficiency or improve quality. Participate in team efforts to refine manufacturing processes.
  • Handle Multiple Projects: Work on multiple parts or batches of parts simultaneously, ensuring each part is properly masked and ready for its next processing stage.
  • Adhere to Time Constraints: Complete masking tasks within set time frames to meet production schedules and customer deadlines.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: At least 1-2 years of experience in masking or surface preparation, preferably in an aerospace or defense manufacturing environment. Previous experience in a NADCAP-certified facility is an asset.
  • Technical Knowledge: Knowledge of masking materials, techniques, and surface treatment processes, including coating, anodizing, plating, and other finishes.
  • Attention to Detail: Must be detail-oriented, ensuring that each part is masked according to the technical specifications and without errors.
  • Physical Abilities: Capable of working with small components, standing for long periods, and performing precise manual tasks. Able to lift and handle parts as required.
  • Safety Awareness: Understanding of safety standards and the ability to work safely with chemicals and industrial equipment. Experience with handling hazardous materials is a plus.
  • Documentation Skills: Proficient in recording process data, using work orders, and maintaining accurate production logs.
  • Communication Skills: Strong communication skills to work effectively with team members, supervisors, and quality control.

Desirable Skills and Experience:

  • Familiarity with NADCAP standards and aerospace quality processes.
  • Experience with common aerospace materials, including metals, composites, and plastics.
  • Ability to troubleshoot masking or process issues and recommend solutions.
