Other Conditions: Up to three (3) positions on federal funds, to begin February 2026 or soon thereafter. Continuation dependent on satisfactory performance, program needs and renewal of funds.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Under the direction of the Principal Investigator and Project Coordinator, facilitate and support program and research to increase the inclusion and success of individuals with disabilities in post-secondary education.
  • Promotes and fosters student self-determination and self-advocacy through direct teaching and by providing opportunities for students to first observe and then act (e.g. asking for accommodations).
  • Provide one-on-one coaching for and tutoring students with a variety of learning challenges/disabilities.
  • Documents students' progress, collects project data, and maintains accurate records and confidentiality for project staff review.
  • Assists in the development of model components related to CDS Educational Coach responsibilities, including person-centered planning and inter-agency teaming initiatives.
  • Creates, models, and maintains a positive environment for student participants.
  • Supports students to run person-centered planning teams.
  • Collects and analyzes qualitative and quantitative data.
  • Conducts literature searches, reviews and academic research.
  • Supports work groups (taking minutes, obtaining requested information, arrange meeting rooms, etc).
  • Assist with the project website, flyers, brochures and other materials.
  • Supports project implementation activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
  1. Must be a degree-seeking graduate student admitted to or registered in a graduate program at UH Manoa in good academic standing (maintaining a GPA of 3.0 or above) and maintain full-time enrollment.
  2. Experience teaching, coaching, or mentoring young people in academic work, especially those with disabilities or those at-risk of school failure.
  3. Reliability, professionalism, and the ability to perform assigned responsibilities with moderate oversight.
  4. Demonstrated technology and software literacy (Mobile Devices, Online Learning Platforms, Microsoft Office and Google Suites).
  5. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  6. Demonstrated ability to perform in team settings and work collaboratively with others.
  7. Ability to travel independently to various geographical locations in a timely manner. Requirement may be fulfilled by a valid Hawai`i Driver's license (Class 3), comparable driver's license, or other means of transportation which meets position needs.

Desirable Qualifications:
  1. Coursework in related fields (Education, Rehabilitation Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, etc.).
  2. Experience working in a post-secondary education setting.
  3. Experience conducting research in academic settings.
  4. Familiar with quantitative methods or qualitative methods.
  5. Experience working with students with significant disabilities.
  6. Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work independently.
  7. Experience in project management, research methodology, survey development, manuscript, and grant proposal preparation.
