Key responsibilities

  • Turn complex regulations into structured, machine-readable logic for AI agents.

  • Partner with customers to understand compliance processes and design products that remove bottlenecks.

  • Collaborate with engineering to ensure every product decision is explainable and compliant by design.

Job description

tl;dr: We're automating compliance for banks and fintechs with AI agents that work on existing systems like human analysts. We're looking for someone who understands both compliance and product management, someone who can turn regulatory workflows into scalable systems that help define how our AI agents reason, decide, and learn.
Background
If you've worked in compliance, you've seen it firsthand: the endless reviews, duplicate alerts, and outdated systems that make even simple controls take hours. The rules make sense; the systems don't.
Sphinx is fixing that. We build AI analysts that work inside browsers and internal systems just like humans - automating AML, KYC, KYB, and transaction monitoring end-to-end.
Instead of replacing judgment, our agents replicate it - learning from analyst feedback, explaining their reasoning, and improving over time. The result: faster onboarding, fewer false positives, and compliance teams that focus on decisions, not data entry.
Banks and fintechs across the U.S., Canada, Europe, and LatAm use Sphinx agents to handle 90% of their manual work and cut costs by 4x.
Why Join Sphinx
  1. Redefine compliance: Banks spend $50B a year hiring thousands of analysts to manage compliance operations. You'll design how financial crime prevention works in the age of AI - replacing checklists and manual reviews with robust reasoning systems that explain their logic.
  2. Work directly with clients: You'll collaborate with banks, fintechs, and MSBs to deploy automation that meets real-world standards.
  3. Build at the frontier: You'll work with engineers to design interpretable, auditable, and explainable AI systems that regulators can trust.
  4. We have never lost a deal to a competitor: Yes you heard that right, we've won every RFP we've been in.
  5. Small team, big surface area: Our co-founders previously sold an AI company & have built ML systems that scaled to millions of users and closed deals with major banks. The rest of our team in SF includes PhDs, industry experts, and competitive coders.

What You'll Work on
Define how our agents think. That means turning complex regulations into structured, machine-readable logic - and ensuring it works across jurisdictions, languages, and edge cases.
Partner with customers to understand how their compliance processes are actually done, then design products that remove the bottlenecks: mapping workflows, refining alerts, improving output quality & accuracy, and building transparency into every decision.
You'll collaborate with engineering to make sure every product decision is explainable and compliant by design - ensuring regulatory adherence, technical precision, and customer success.
What We Look For
  • You bring real compliance experience: You've spent 3-5 years in AML, risk, or compliance roles at a bank, fintech, or regtech - and you know how investigations, onboarding, and escalations actually work.
  • You bridge compliance and product: You can translate regulatory logic into product requirements engineers can act on - turning policies, SOPs, and edge cases into automated workflows.
  • You think in systems: You know how to deconstruct manual review processes, identify leverage points, and design scalable automation.
  • You care about false-positives: you know how to use metrics to understand issues, and love diving deeper to find a pattern.
  • You're impact-obsessed: You want to see your work move the company forward - every day.
