Job Description

This temporary role supports a commercial solar project involving the safe decommissioning and later reinstallation of rooftop solar panels on a flat-roof facility. You will work as part of a field crew handling physical labor, basic solar and electrical tasks, and site safety responsibilities during both project phases over several weeks.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the decommissioning of rooftop solar panels during Phase 1, including removal of panels, racking, and related components according to project plans and safety procedures.
  • Support the reinstallation of solar panels during Phase 2, helping to place, secure, and align panels and racking systems on the flat roof as directed.
  • Handle tools, materials, and equipment safely and efficiently, including lifting, carrying, and staging solar panels and related hardware on the roof.
  • Follow instructions from the foreperson and experienced solar team members to complete tasks on schedule and to required quality standards.
  • Work at heights on flat roofs while maintaining strict adherence to fall protection and all site safety protocols.
  • Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including steel toe boots, hard hat, safety goggles, gloves, and high-visibility vest at all times on site.

  • Collaborate with crew members to ensure efficient workflow, clear communication, and safe handling of all materials.
  • Demonstrate reliability and strong work ethic, with the potential to be invited back for the second phase of the project based on performance during the initial assignment.

Essential Skills

  • Ability to perform physically demanding labor, including lifting, carrying, and working on flat rooftops for extended periods.
  • Comfort working at heights on flat roofs while following all safety and fall protection procedures.
  • Experience in solar, electrical, or construction work, particularly in commercial solar or rooftop installations.
  • Willingness and ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions from supervisors and forepersons and work effectively as part of a crew.
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality for a Monday–Friday schedule from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • Commitment to wearing and maintaining required PPE, including steel toe boots, hard hat, safety goggles, gloves, and high-visibility vest.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Prior commercial solar experience, especially with rooftop solar installations, is a strong plus.
  • Experience working on decommissioning or reinstalling solar panels is beneficial.
  • Experience in electrical work or solar installation is advantageous.
