Detailed Job Description:
The Lifeguard is an integral part of the Student Life Rec Sports team committed to a vision as leaders in developing lives of balance, physical activity and well-being. We do our work by celebrating our proud and progressive heritage, delivering extraordinary experiences, while advancing and advocating for lifelong movement on an active healthy campus. We believe in our shared pursuit of inspiring a culture of 'lives in motion' one Buckeye at a time.
Under the direction of the Assistant Director - Aquatics Personnel, Programs, & Events, the Lifeguard will be responsible for the safety and rescue of patrons in and around the pool at all times of operation and assisting with secondary duties when assigned. Maintaining a professional demeanor and positive and cooperative attitude is necessary at all times. Must be committed to providing a consistent and high level of customer service to patrons and staff alike. Exercise discretion and independent judgement with respect to matters of significance, including but not limited to, governmental and public relations, legal and regulatory compliance, supervising the aquatics facility; positive and effective communication skills, works and encourages others to work in a safe manner; demonstrates a comprehensive knowledge of, and complies with the facility rules, policies and procedures, and consistently and appropriately enforces them. Interacts with student and professional staff in order to understand and foster their values. Oversees the operations, supervision, administration, instruction and direction of the aquatic facility in the absence of full-time staff. Ability to serve positively in both a supporting role and a leadership role. Ability to work mornings, nights, weekends, special events, hard to fill times and holidays; attends monthly in-service trainings, meetings, fitness swims and bi-weekly skill checks; maintains all certifications; Opening and closing of the facility.
Secondary duties include cleaning, facility/event/equipment setups and tear downs, maintenance of equipment, chemical checks, support of lifeguard staff, assistance with all levels of facility operations as assigned.
Duty Description
Maintains the safety of, and when necessary, the rescue of, all patrons in and around the aquatic center's 7 swimming pools at all times of operation.
Assists with facility cleanliness and security, executes events and program set-ups and tear-downs, and provides excellent customer service to patrons; performs and supervises all aspects of the aquatic's facility operation, including developing and executing programs of water-related activities, monitoring and regulating pool chemistry, performing routine maintenance; conducts daily maintenance inspections of facility; ensures facility cleanness and security; Opens and closes the facility
Performs other duties as assigned.
Experience:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. American Red Cross Lifeguard & CPR-PR/AED certifications, previous experience as a lifeguard; ability to lift and manipulate up to 50 pounds.
Availability:
This position does not require a specific number of hours per week. The intermittent temp lifeguard works during times of highest staffing need (events, breaks, etc.) when called upon by the lifeguard supervisor.
