Job description

Warehouse Laborer and Operations Clerk
City: Fort Wayne
Job Description:
Join Purdue University Fort Wayne:
We are currently seeking a full-time and onsite Warehouse Laborer and Operations Clerk in our Warehouse Operations division. This position performs physical warehouse duties and administrative duties. The pay for this position is $16.00/hr.
Responsibilities:

  • Receives campus mail, US mail, certified mail, freight items, UPS, FedEx and other vendor items
  • Complete documentation, inspect for damages and store as required.
  • Maintain records of incoming parcels and certified mail received.
  • Sort mail, packages, etc. by departments, buildings and individuals to whom the mail is addressed.
  • Deliver mail to proper location within the buildings.
  • Pick-up campus mail, US mail, and packages from departments and deliver to proper location to be picked up and delivered by campus mail truck drivers.
  • Inspect freight items to determine if they are acceptable and notify authorities of damages.
  • Maintain records of incoming parcels and certified mail received.
  • Pick up USPS mail and packages by 9:30am, daily from the Hazelwood USPS Branch. Return to campus to sort these packages and mail for delivery with morning mail routes.
  • Perform assorted warehousing duties involving use of pallet jack and/or forklift.
  • Operate postage machine.
  • Maintain knowledge of USPS mailing and packaging regulations.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
  • A High School Diploma or GED.
  • 2 years minimum - combination of the following: Working around receiving/distribution docks and scheduling delivery routes, warehousing and/or surplus property environment, scrapping operations, retail sales, cash/credit/debit card handling, mail and package delivery, computer knowledge, furniture, lab equipment delivery and removal, customer service.
  • Demonstrate good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to deal professionally with university staff, faculty, students as well as outside vendors and general public.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and supervisor.
  • Computer skills including email, word processing, spreadsheet, data entry and basic math.
  • Must be able to obtain (and maintain) forklift certification within 90 days of employment.
  • Must be able to safely operate assorted university delivery vehicles (service vans, box trucks, Kubota trucks, forklifts, etc.
  • This position requires a valid driver's license and the ability to successfully pass a Motor Vehicle Records (MVR) check.
  • Must be able to push/pull/lift or move up to 75 lbs. on a regular basis and 100 lbs. occasionally.
  • Able to work outdoors in temps ranging from the upper 90 degrees to below freezing.

  • Knowledge of university policies and procedures is desired.
