Position Description
The Election Training Specialist is responsible for preparing Harris County election workers to successfully conduct elections by delivering high-quality training, providing exceptional customer service, and supporting polling locations throughout the election cycle. This role requires strong communication skills, adaptability, professionalism, and the ability to respond effectively in both structured and rapidly changing environments.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive understanding of all election policies, procedures, and operational content outlined in the training curriculum, manuals, and supporting materials.
- Deliver engaging, accurate, and professional training to election workers in classroom and in-field settings utilizing approved curricula and resources.
- Provide exceptional customer service and technical guidance to election workers both in person and over the phone ensuring absolute professionalism at all times.
- Provide on-site coaching and support to reinforce compliance with election laws, procedures, and departmental policies utilizing approved materials and resources.
- Respond to time-sensitive operational issues, including traveling to polling locations to assist with unexpected or emergency situations during election periods.
- Assist other teams within the Election Department as operational needs require.
- Demonstrate sound judgment by recognizing when additional guidance or clarification is needed and promptly escalating concerns to team leads or management.
- Accept coaching and constructive feedback from supervisors and team leads, including during live training sessions when immediate adjustments are necessary.
- Arrive prepared and on time for all scheduled assignments, meetings, and training events.
- Demonstrate professionalism, impartiality, and composure while training election workers with diverse political perspectives.

Requirements
Must meet all eligibility requirements to register to vote in the State of Texas.
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent from an accredited educational institution.
- At least one (1)-year of training/teaching experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Must be able to work under stress and without direct supervision.
- Knowledgeable of the general operations of an election and the Harris County website.
- Be professional and have good interpersonal skills.
- Computer proficient in Microsoft Office suite, can type at least 30 words per minute, and be willing to learn new computer programs and applications.
- Must have the ability to prioritize tasks and possess excellent communication skills.

General Information
Position Type and Typical Hours of Work:
- Temp Full-time | Position End Date: 11/20/2026 - This is a temporary position being onboarded through a Harris County-contracted agency.
- Monday - Friday | 8:00 A.M. to 4:30 P.M.
- Overtime hours as required to include extended hours and weekends during election periods.
- Election Training Specialists MUST be able to work weekends and extended hours when training.
Work Environment and Physical Demands:
- This job operates in a professional office environment as well as in various building types (i.e. hotels, community centers, colleges, etc.).
- This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, projectors, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
- Instructors are also expected to be able to remain standing for hours at a time, lift up to 35lbs, and push carts on wheels weighing in excess of 200lbs.
