Temporary Program Assistant I

The Housing Opportunities Commission of Montgomery County (HOC) was established in 1974 to better respond to the County's need for affordable housing. HOC is authorized to acquire, own, lease, and operate housing; to provide for the construction or renovation of housing; obtain financial assistance from any public or private source to assist its housing activities; and arrange for social services, resident services, and daycare.

Job Description:

This position is responsible for administrative support to staff working with the Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) and project based (PBV) programs and will provide excellent customer service to internal and external customers. This position is located at the Silver Spring Customer Service Center.

Examples of Duties:

  • Schedule and monitor client/applicant correspondence
  • Assign and disseminate incoming correspondence
  • Perform data entry and general clerical tasks such as distribution of mail
  • Schedule informal hearings
  • Process weekly/monthly reports
  • Track appointments and other project tasks
  • Work in various databases including Excel, PowerPoint and Word
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • At least two (2) years administrative or clerical experience

Education:

  • Requires a High School Diploma or Equivalent

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Good interpersonal, customer service and organizational skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize assignments to meet deadlines and be dependable
  • Ability to maintain excellent customer service techniques
  • Basic computer skills including proficiency with MS Office Suite

Work Schedule/Location:

  • Work Schedule is in office Monday-Friday, 8:30AM-5PM.
  • Telework is not provided for temporary employees; however, limited telework may be provided at the sole discretion of the direct supervisor.
  • Parking costs are the responsibility of the selected candidate and not reimbursed through HOC.
