Position Responsibilities
Position Summary
The Flexible Administrative Support Temps (FAST) Roster offers applicants the opportunity to work as temporary employees in University of Idaho departments. It also fulfills a need for hiring departments to fill temporary administrative support positions very quickly. Candidates should be available to work at least 20 hours per week between the hours of 7:30 AM and 5:00 PM, Monday-Friday. Duration of employment in departments may range from one day to several months, full-time or part-time. Duties vary from light clerical/receptionist to more challenging secretarial/technical work and other professional work.
  • Where are the position opportunities for the FAST Roster located? Currently the FAST Roster is designed to service Moscow campus departments. Hiring departments with available temporary administrative support positions will define their minimum and desirable qualifications. They will then review the completed applications on the FAST roster and screen the applicants based on availability, how well applicants meet their specific position requirements, and reference checks.
  • How do I apply? Applicants will complete the online application The department screens applicants in that position category for the skills/knowledge/experience required to perform the duties of their position, interviews, and hires the best qualified, available candidate for the position.

Responsibilities
Job Duty Function Administrative Support 1 Job Duties/Responsibilities
  • Duties: Performs routine office support duties. Under direct supervision, this position performs routine and repetitious general office support duties using well-established guidelines. Incumbents answer routine questions and provide non-technical information to customers or refer customers to appropriate department staff for more in-depth assistance. These positions may involve working with automated systems, simple computer records system maintenance, and/or word processing software. Tasks are performed at a non-discretionary level.
  • Required Qualifications: Some knowledge of and/or demonstrated ability to perform filing; answering a business telephone; checking, proofing, sorting, or coding information or documents; making photocopies; running errands; greeting customers and providing routine information. Experience using word processing software; using basic math skills.
  • Physical Requirements & Working Conditions: Frequent bending, lifting, carrying and/or otherwise moving material weighing up to 30 pounds. Some positions may require standing for prolonged periods of time. Some positions may require continual movement within and between offices and buildings to complete assigned tasks.

  • Duties: Provides a variety of office support requiring good knowledge of clerical functions and assigned program areas; perform related work. Under limited general supervision, incumbents perform a wide range of office support functions using some independent judgment in applying existing policies and procedures to complete assignments. May explain department services, policies and procedures and use a variety of computer operations to complete daily assignments.
  • Required Qualifications: All of the above, plus providing reception; using electronic or manual alphabetical, numerical, or subject filing systems; using a computer to enter and retrieve information; answering a business telephone using business procedures/etiquette. Experience using basic math skills; making change and cashiering; operating word processing equipment and software; experience using spreadsheet software.

  • Duties: Provides complex secretarial, office administration, and public relations assignments; perform related work. This position performs higher-level secretarial duties and may utilize effective public relations and liaison skills.
  • Required Qualifications: All of the above plus experience interpreting, applying, and explaining complex information such as regulations, policies, and services; independently researching solutions to problems; coordinating complex activities; planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating special projects. Possess good written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills. Experience with financial record keeping; monitoring budgets; preparing financial transactions; some knowledge of supervisory practices; experience using spreadsheet software; knowledge of information systems/software to perform the scope of their duties.

  • Duties: Performing high-level assignments and ensuring effective interoffice communication, management, and coordination of the daily operations. Independently researching issues; compiling and analyzing information; monitoring and reconciling budgets if necessary; providing management reports and information to others. Acting as a liaison with internal and external constituents.
  • Required Qualifications: All of the above plus education and experience: Bachelor's degree in related field OR 4 years progressively responsible administrative experience. Experience with office management; making recommendations for planning, organizing, and implementing special projects/meetings; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships; maintaining a high level of organization. Ability to identify and initiate tasks needed to complete a project; act independently and exercise initiative; problem-solve and provide solutions and recommendations; work independently. Experience with state-of-the art software; financial record keeping; monitoring budgets; preparing financial transactions; supervisory experience; experience seeing special projects through to completion.
