What is a temp computer aided design?

Temp Computer Aided Design (CAD) jobs are temporary positions where professionals use software to create technical drawings, models, or plans for a variety of industries such as architecture, engineering, or manufacturing. These roles typically involve assisting with design projects for a set period, often to cover increased workload or specific projects. Temp CAD professionals must be proficient in CAD software and able to quickly adapt to different team workflows and project requirements. Such positions can be a great way to gain experience, build a portfolio, and network within the industry.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a temp computer aided design professional?

To thrive as a Temp Computer Aided Design professional, you need proficiency in drafting, technical drawing, and a solid understanding of engineering or architectural principles, typically supported by relevant coursework or an associate degree. Familiarity with industry-standard CAD software like AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or Revit is essential, and certifications in these tools can be advantageous. Attention to detail, effective time management, and the ability to communicate technical information clearly are crucial soft skills. These capabilities ensure accurate and timely design deliverables, seamless collaboration with project teams, and successful adaptation to short-term assignments.

CAD Technician

Compensation: $24.00 - $28.00

We are seeking a CAD Technician with experience working with electrical drawings to join our client's team. This is a great opportunity for someone with hands-on SolidWorks experience who enjoys working with engineers and technical teams to create and update detailed drawings.

What You'll Do:
  • Create clear and accurate 2D and 3D electrical drawings, schematics, panel layouts, and connection diagrams based on engineering notes, sketches, and specifications.
  • Revise and update existing drawings as designs and project requirements change.
  • Maintain accurate drawing revisions, file organization, and version control.
  • Collaborate with electrical engineers and field personnel to review layouts, identify issues, and make necessary design changes.
  • Ensure drawings follow company standards, customer specifications, and applicable electrical codes, including NEC requirements.
  • Maintain project documentation, drawing numbers, and related records.
  • Prepare and update parts lists and material lists as needed.
  • Support engineering and project teams with additional drafting and documentation needs.
What We're Looking For:
  • Hands-on experience with SolidWorks is required.
  • Experience creating or working with electrical drawings, schematics, or layouts.
  • Understanding of basic electrical systems, symbols, and terminology.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and engineering documentation.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Basic technical math skills, including algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with engineers and other team members.
  • An associate degree, CAD/drafting certificate, or related technical education is preferred.
  • Experience with Revit or MicroStation is a plus.
Why Consider This Opportunity?
  • Temporary/contract opportunity with a consistent Monday-Friday schedule.
  • Daytime hours: 7:30 AM-4:00 PM.
  • Opportunity to utilize and expand your SolidWorks and electrical drafting skills.
  • Work directly with engineering and technical professionals on real-world projects.

If you have SolidWorks experience and a background in electrical drafting or technical drawings, we'd like to hear from you! Apply today to be considered.
