Work Schedule: Hybrid; 40 hours per week; schedule may include day, swing, overnight, weekends, and 24/7/365 coverage based on operational needs

Company Overview

This organization operates within a large county government technology services environment and supports critical internal systems, infrastructure, production applications, and operational technology services. The team provides production support for mainframe and midrange computing environments that require consistent monitoring, issue resolution, documentation, and coordination across a 24/7/365 operating model.


Position Summary

The IT Production Support Assistant works under the direction of a team lead or section manager to support production applications running in mainframe and midrange computing environments. This role supports production job creation and scheduling, job execution, monitoring, troubleshooting, incident documentation, mainframe console operations, and application promotion support.

The ideal candidate has recent experience in IBM mainframe operations, production control, Control-M scheduling, Endevor, JCL, incident ticketing, and data center operations. This position requires flexibility, strong communication skills, customer service orientation, and the ability to work in a hybrid environment with potential day, swing, overnight, weekend, and 24/7/365 coverage requirements.


Key Responsibilities

  • Support production applications running in mainframe and midrange server environments
  • Create, schedule, execute, monitor, troubleshoot, hold, submit, cancel, and manage production jobs using scheduling software
  • Use Control-M to manage production jobs in an IBM mainframe operations and production control environment
  • Support mainframe COBOL applications using source code storage and compilation tools
  • Promote program packages and members as requested by application developers
  • Use Endevor to move customer application programs and application source elements, including Job Control Language, procedures, and control statements, into Endevor libraries
  • Participate in paired programming or knowledge-sharing activities for training and operational continuity
  • Review, update, and submit procedural documentation
  • Participate in team presentations to build team skills and technical expertise
  • Manage incident tickets using a tracking software application and update each incident or request with actions taken and resolution details
  • Coordinate or control mainframe console operations, device assignments, operator message replies, and input and output device operations
  • Execute jobs according to predefined schedules while complying with and enforcing computer operation standards
  • Support multiple operational tasks during assigned shifts in a 24/7/365 full-coverage environment
  • Operate commercial high-speed printing equipment for large-volume print jobs as needed


Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • At least two years of experience within the last five years working with IBM mainframe operations and production control environments
  • At least two years of experience within the last five years ordering, holding, submitting, cancelling, and monitoring production jobs using Control-M
  • At least two years of experience within the last five years working in a data center environment while interacting closely with customers
  • At least two years of experience within the last five years managing incident tickets using a tracking software application such as Cherwell or a comparable service management tool
  • At least two years of experience within the last five years working with Endevor to move application programs and source elements into Endevor libraries
  • Experience working with Job Control Language, procedures, and control statements
  • Knowledge and experience in customer service, flexibility, interpersonal communication, leadership, organizational awareness, and problem solving
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in a hybrid schedule with onsite and telework requirements
  • Ability to support a 24/7/365 team environment where schedules may change and may include day, swing, overnight, and weekend work



Preferred Qualifications

  • One year of experience operating a commercial high-speed printer to support large-volume print jobs
  • Experience with Canon varioPRINT 6220 TITAN MICR or similar commercial high-speed printing equipment
  • Experience supporting production operations in a public-sector, enterprise, data center, or high-availability environment
  • Experience with COBOL application support, application promotion, or source code compilation processes
  • Prior experience working under computer operations standards and predefined production schedules
