Job description

POSITION SUMMARY:
Safe operation of CNC boring mill and/or lathe as required by management to produce quality products efficiently and within specifications.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Operate CNC machine to manufacture parts per CNC programs, drawings and/or instructions.
  • Setup material to be machined onto the work center accounting for all safety protocols.
  • Review CNC program output, part references, tooling and compare against drawings/router instructions to ensure correlation.
  • Evaluate complex setups for safety and effectiveness prior to beginning machining to reduce risk of injury and/or errors.
  • Using prior training, perform secure rigging techniques and test prior to lifting heavy parts. Do not assume.
  • Select all equipment and tooling required for the operation based on instructions/discussions and notify foreman/supervisor on any concerns that may arise.
  • Ensure all measuring equipment, company and personal, is calibrated prior to each use and notify QC department of any discrepancies. Do not use nonconforming equipment.
  • Inspect all machined features and compare to drawing to ensure specified dimensions are met.
  • Perform minor program edits before and during machining when required to improve efficiency and effectiveness of operation to reduce risk of nonconformance or machine breakdown.
  • Assist other personnel if requested to do so to share knowledge and ideas on operational success.
  • Ensure all labor hours are accurately recorded by signing, scanning operations and time clocks as instructed.
  • Ensure work area is clear of all obstacles and clean any spills immediately to minimize risk of injury.
  • Follow company policy to wear supplied Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when performing duties.
  • Return all non-essential equipment to the required storage location after each use.
  • Daily inspection and maintenance of fluid levels, filters, covers on machine and notify foreman/supervisor of any concerns.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Maintain good attendance and notify supervisor on absences.
  • Attend and participate in group meetings related to business topics.
  • Complete online and physical training assignments as required within specified time period.
  • May be asked to mentor other less experienced employees during periods of training.
  • May be asked to provide ideas or improvements to operational performance.
  • May be asked to assist in other departments on occasions during times of need.
  • Performs other duties assigned by management.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 7 year experience in operating a CNC machine.
  • Minimum 5 year experience in machining medium to large complex components.
  • Experience using overhead cranes and lifting equipment.
  • Exceptional knowledge on machining techniques and problem solving.
  • Mathematical skills including geometry and trigonometry formulae.
  • Adequate visual, verbal and written skills to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to evaluate and understand detailed and complex drawings and instructions.
  • Ability to perform daily tasks safely and without assistance.
  • Possess adequate personal tools to carry out daily functions.
  • Ambitious and motivated to get the job done.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Frequent lifting, pushing, pulling, bending, standing, kneeling, reaching and climbing.
  • Frequent periods of high noise levels.
  • Exposure to fluids, dust, fumes and mist.
