Description

INTRODUCTION: This position reports to the Assembly Supervisor. It is solely accountable for the fulfillment of all assigned duties and has authority delegated commensurate with assigned responsibilities.

ASSEMBLY LEAD: Performs duties associated with all areas of the Assembly Department. Provides consistent leadership support and instruction to the assembly team. Responsible to serve as a guide, answer questions, offer insight and organize responsibilities. Is responsible for ensuring that processes on the assembly line are carried out efficiently and with strict adherence to quality standards. Will provide assistance to the Assembly Line Supervisor in coordinating several activities, including training, operating machines, production, processing, packaging and sorting. Will ensure that safety rules and procedures are strictly followed by the team. The Lead to demonstrate leadership skills by supporting, encouraging, directing, controlling and correcting the members of the team to achieve efficiency. This role possesses in-depth knowledge of all production procedures and know how to use tools and operate machinery. The Lead is also responsible to ensure that all manufactured products pass quality assurance tests and also that they meet the company's product specifications.

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY: Include, but are not limited to:

a) Supports and maintains the efficiency and part quality of the assembly line and department.

b) Reviews the production schedule daily and communicates to the Assembly Line Supervisor or the Production Manager any missing parts or materials.

c) Verifies that all non-conforming material have been removed daily to designated area at the end of the shift.  

d) Ensures that the assembly Accumulation Report is completed daily.

e) Held accountable for corrective action within their area of responsibility.

f) Has the authority to shut down the assembly line for quality and product related issues.

g) Provides training of new employees and re-training of current employees according to the job work instructions in all areas of assembly as required. (Includes Temporary Employees)

h) Ensures that all Assembly Work Instructions are being followed.

i) Ensure that products are labeled correctly. 

j) Held accountable to ensure that the assembly work areas are kept; neat, clean and organized daily and in accordance with 5S and Housekeeping practices and rules.

k) Ensures that all safety standards and company policies are followed in their area of responsibility.

l) Operate forklift and train forklift operators.

m) Delegate authority to assemblers and others when required.

n) Responsible in a support role for the production needs in the assembly area, also serves as the leader in the absence of the Assembly Line Supervisor.

o) Ensure overbuilt materials are properly incorporated into production orders.

p) Supports the safeguarding of the lines efficiency and quality.

q) Supports quality work and quality checks in accordance to the work instructions and that workers are adhering work instructions.

r) Provides support to performance reviews on time and per company standards.

s) In the absence of the supervisor, the Lead will assume the responsibilities of the supervisor and coordinate with the production manager to assure the department runs to its fullest capability.

Requirements

REQUIREMENTS: 

a) High school diploma or GED certificate.

b) Minimum of 1 year on the job experience in the assembly department at JOST.

b) Leadership abilities to promote and sustain cooperative working relationships with other departments and leaders.

c) Ability to learn and utilize the company's current ERP system.

d) Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Outlook and Excel.

e) Capable of using applicable hand tools correctly and safely.

f) Good interpersonal written, and oral communication skills with a high level of attention to detail.

g) Capable of working in a fast paced manufacturing environment.

h) Highly dependable, motivated and self-driven with excellent attendance.

i) Ability to follow, understand and abide by Work Instructions.

j) Provides support in enforcement of company rules and policies.

k) Ability to take direction from leadership and to communicate information clearly and directly to co-workers both verbally and in writing.   

l) Ability to gain knowledge of, understanding of, and abide by JOST's Basic Processes and gain knowledge of company products. Will also comply with quality, environmental and safety policies and procedures.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

a) Work is performed in a manufacturing setting.  

b) While performing duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to; walk, stand, see, hear, use hands, reach, stoop, bend, twist, and occasionally will be required to repetitively lift or move objects which weigh a minimum of 5# pounds to a maximum 51# pounds with or without assistance.
