The Biomedical Engineering (BME) Department at Carnegie Mellon University is renowned for its interdisciplinary approach to solving complex healthcare challenges. Located within CMU's College of Engineering, the department emphasizes the integration of engineering principles with biomedical sciences to address pressing medical and biological issues. The department is characterized by its focus on creating impactful technologies and therapies that improve patient care and advance biomedical innovation globally.
Carnegie Mellon University's department of Biomedical Engineering is seeking a Research Technician to join the Cohen-Karni team in the Hybrid-Nanomaterials and Nano-Bioelectronics Group. We are currently working on integrated multidisciplinary research to develop cutting edge science and technologies to enhance bioelectrical devices functionality, performance, and longevity. We will be using unconventional approaches for the design and fabrication of bioelectrical platforms with clinical translation as the goal. The research assistant main goal will be to assist in the fabrication and deployment of unique electrochemical actuators to tackle grand biomedical challenges such as controlled therapeutics delivery.
Core Responsibilities:
  • Performs some equipment or instrument repair. Performs lab set-up and preparation for experiments or instruction.
  • Ensures appropriate and safe handling of all lab stock and supplies. Instructs lab students in same. Enforces safety rules and regulations to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Maintains lab inventory, ordering supplies as needed. Works to academic departments to ensure the maintenance of lab instruments, equipment, and facilities.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
  • Documents results of lab experiments. Maintains databases and other files or records.
  • Works with students to collect and tabulate homework and experiment reports.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
  • BSc in Materials Science and Engineering, Biomedical Engineering on topics
  • related to (implanted) bioelectronics, electrocatalysis and/or electrochemistry is required.
  • Coursework in electrochemistry is required.
  • Experience with chemical wet lab work is required.
  • Experience with in vivo experimentation is desired.
  • Experience programming in Matlab and/or Python is desired.
  • Experience with SEM/TEM/Raman/XPS/XRD is desired.
  • The ability to work well in a self-paced, independent manner, while working well in cooperation with
  • team members and partners is required.
  • A commitment to meet research project deadlines is required.
  • A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.
