Job Summary
The Atukorale Laboratory is part of UMass Amherst Biomedical Engineering that is located at UMass Chan Medical School in Worcester. This position will be based in Worcester, MA.
Essential Functions
Perform scientific studies and collect/analyze data involving but not limited to the following experimental areas: Nanomaterials synthesis and chemistry, materials characterization, mammalian cell culture, a range of molecular biology assays, animal husbandry, animal surgery, animal imaging, and animal treatment studies.
Be responsible for fundamental laboratory management, such as quality control of reagents, ordering of reagents and supplies, and maintenance of equipment.
Liaise with vendors and suppliers for laboratory maintenance and general running operations.
Supervise laboratory members, including undergraduate researchers, and provide mentorship on an individualized basis.
Prepare scientific manuscripts for submission and navigate the peer-review process.
Other Functions
Perform related duties as assigned or required to meet Department, Executive Area/Division, and University goals and objectives.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor degree in Biomedical Engineering, Biology, or closely related fields is preferred.
Ability to use sound judgment in normal and emergency situations.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in Biomedical Engineering, Biology, or closely related fields is preferred.
Additional Details
Main research laboratory will be located at the University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School located in Worcester, MA.
Initial appointment for one (1) year with additional reappointments as long as research funding exists.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in a laboratory or healthcare setting and may involve exposure to chemicals or infectious diseases. Requires standing for extended periods of time and/or use of protective gear.
Work Schedule and Work Arrangement
Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm, benefited 100% FTE
Salary Information
The annual salary range for this position is $45,000 - $51,000.
