What is a Temp BCBA?

A Temp BCBA (Board Certified Behavior Analyst) job is a temporary position where a certified professional provides behavioral analysis services for a set period. These roles are often used to cover staff shortages, maternity leaves, or special projects. Temp BCBAs assess, develop, and implement behavior intervention plans for individuals with behavioral challenges, typically in schools, clinics, or home settings. The flexibility of these roles allows professionals to gain diverse experience while supporting organizations in need of short-term expertise.

What does a Temp BCBA do?

As a Temp BCBA, you will generally be responsible for conducting assessments, developing and supervising behavior intervention plans, providing training to support staff, and overseeing data collection and analysis. You might fill in for permanent BCBAs during leaves of absence, transitions, or times of high client caseloads. Collaboration with families, teachers, or other clinicians is often a key aspect of the role. You may work in a variety of settings, such as clinics, schools, or in clients' homes, adapting to the unique needs of each environment. This dynamic role offers valuable experience across different service models and often leads to new professional connections.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a Temp BCBA?

To thrive as a Temp BCBA (Board Certified Behavior Analyst), you need a strong background in applied behavior analysis, experience with behavior intervention plans, and an active BCBA certification. Familiarity with data collection software, electronic health records, and behavior analysis tools is typically required. Excellent communication, adaptability, and problem-solving skills are valuable traits that help build strong relationships with clients, families, and support staff. These skills ensure effective, ethical, and timely delivery of behavioral services, especially in temporary or transitional assignments.

Can you work remotely as a Temp BCBA?

Temp BCBA positions can sometimes be performed remotely, especially if the employer allows telehealth services and the candidate has the necessary certifications and technology setup. However, some roles may require in-person supervision or assessments, depending on the employer's policies and client needs.
