What is a teleport?

A Teleport job typically refers to a role in satellite communications or IT infrastructure, where professionals manage data transmission between satellites, ground stations, and network systems. Responsibilities may include operating and maintaining teleport facilities, troubleshooting connectivity issues, and ensuring reliable communication services. These jobs are commonly found in the telecommunications, broadcasting, and space industries.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a teleport engineer?

To thrive as a Teleport (Access Platform) Engineer, you need a solid background in computer science, cybersecurity, and networking, often supported by a degree and experience with secure infrastructure. Familiarity with Teleport, SSH, Kubernetes, Linux, cloud platforms, and relevant certifications such as CKA or AWS Certified Solutions Architect is typically required. Strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills help engineers address access management challenges and work effectively with cross-functional teams. These skills ensure secure, efficient, and compliant access to critical systems in dynamic, distributed environments.

What are some common challenges faced by teleport engineers when coordinating with cross-functional teams?

Teleportation Engineers often work closely with software developers, network engineers, and security specialists to build and maintain secure remote access solutions. A common challenge is aligning technical requirements and timelines across different teams, as each group may have its own priorities and workflows. Effective communication and clear documentation are essential to ensure smooth collaboration, especially when troubleshooting complex connectivity or security issues. Building strong relationships with stakeholders helps ensure that solutions are robust, scalable, and meet organizational needs.

What is the difference between Teleport vs Network Engineer?

Job description

About Teleport
Don't wait for the future of infrastructure. Be part of it.
Teleport is the AI Infrastructure Identity Company. We're solving one of the hardest problems in security: giving every human, machine, workload, and AI agent a cryptographically secured identity, improving engineering velocity while maintaining security. We make trusted computing simple. This gives you the freedom, power, and autonomy to build and innovate with confidence.
Remote-first and globally distributed, we work with companies like Nasdaq, Doordash, and Elastic to secure infrastructure for an AI world.
About the Role
We are looking for our first Data Engineer to build Teleport's internal data platform. You will design and own the pipelines and warehouse that turn raw data from across the company, including product usage, production costs, budgets, and sales, into data that any team can use to answer their own questions.
You will work closely with teams across the company, including product, engineering, finance, and revenue, to understand their data needs and deliver reliable, well-modeled data they can depend on.
What You'll do
  • Design and build data pipelines that ingest data from a variety of internal sources into a central warehouse.
  • Design data models and schemas that are performant, well-documented, and can evolve as our data and questions change.
  • Build data quality checks and validation into every stage of the pipeline so that bad data fails loudly instead of quietly reaching downstream tables.
  • Handle sensitive data responsibly, including access control, redaction, and retention policy for data containing customer or user information.
  • Partner with stakeholders across the company to scope new data sources and analytical tables, and help them get self-serve access to the data they need.
What We're Looking For
  • Willingness to work collaboratively with Teleport's engineers on coding challenge in SQL / Go as part of the interview process.
  • Builder mentality and experience - has built a data engineering function from scratch at a growing startup.
  • Expertise in data modeling and SQL.
  • Extensive experience building data pipelines in Python or Go.
  • Experience with a cloud data warehouse (Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, or similar).
  • Experience with pipeline orchestration or transformation tooling.
  • Experience handling sensitive data responsibly, including access control and data retention practices.
  • Intellectual curiosity and a willingness to master new technologies.
  • Comfortable changing the area of focus and working directly with stakeholders across the company.
  • No-ego mindset of collaboration, transparency, and seeking feedback from others.

Nice to Have
  • Go is your language of choice.
  • Mathematics or statistics background.
  • Knowledge of Airflow, dbt, or similar tools.

How We Hire
Our process is designed to be straightforward and respectful of your time. We skip performative rounds and focus on what matters: understanding how you think and what you can do.
For this role, we use a take-home challenge that mirrors real work at Teleport - on your time, your way. You'll have support from the team throughout.
  1. Zoom meeting with a Teleport recruiter. You'll learn about the company, our products, compensation philosophy, interview process, and key requirements.
  2. Zoom meeting with the Hiring Manager. The Hiring Manager will walk you through the coding challenge and answer your questions.
  3. Coding challenge collaboration. The day after your meeting with the Hiring Manager, you join a Slack channel and complete a coding challenge in SQL / Gousing GitHub. The challenge usually takes about 2 weeks and ends with a Zoom meeting with the Hiring Manager and a member of the interview team to review your solution.
  4. If your challenge solution meets our bar, you'll receive an offer to join Teleport.

Why Teleport
You're joining a company where the problem is real, the team is small, and your work shows up directly in the product. We're not a big company, you won't get lost in a crowd. You'll have the freedom and autonomy to do what you're great at, alongside teammates who care about doing it right and want to see you succeed. The work is collaborative, there's real room to grow, and the mission is one worth showing up for.
Remote-first and globally distributed, we're genuinely passionate about what we're building.
The Benefits
At Teleport, we believe your career is more important than a list of perks. That's why we focus on making your day-to-day the best it can be - giving you the autonomy, access, and support to do the best work of your career.
- Extensive health coverage
- Annual expense budget
- Rest and recovery policies that maximize your ability to recharge
- Investment in your future with retirement savings plans
- Professional development opportunities
