Summary

This role focuses on financial analysis, forecasting, monitoring and reporting on organization's market exposure for various physical and financial commodities.  The position is responsible for developing insights into market trends, revenue drivers, and risk to support strategic decision-making for Finance, the Risk Oversight Committee and across Supply & Trading & Fuels. The selected candidate will build and maintain financial models, evaluate market scenarios, and support the development of forward-looking plans and forecasts for energy commodities including natural gas, power, and related markets with a strong focus on risk. 


 

What You'll Do
  • Conduct financial and economic analysis to support planning, forecasting, and pricing strategies across SRP's commodity portfolio (natural gas, power, emissions, and related products).
  • Develop and maintain forecasting and valuation models to assess revenues, costs, and margin under various market scenarios.
  • Analyze market trends, supply/demand fundamentals, and pricing dynamics to inform short- and long-term financial planning.
  • Support the development of budgets, financial plans, and outlooks related to commodity activity and hedging strategies.
  • Evaluate potential transactions and strategies through scenario modeling, sensitivity analysis, and risk-adjusted financial metrics.
  • Produce executive-level reporting and insights on financial performance, market conditions, and key drivers of variance to plan.
  • Partner with Supply & Trading & Fuels, Finance, and Pricing teams to translate operational activity into financial implications and actionable insights.
  • Develop dashboards and reporting tools (Power BI, SQL, Excel) to track key financial, operational, and market indicators.
  • Support revenue forecasting and price-setting processes by analyzing cost drivers, demand assumptions, and market conditions.
  • Provide analytical support for strategic initiatives, including long-term resource planning, pricing proposals, and large customer analysis.
  • Perform ad hoc financial analyses and business case evaluations to support leadership decision-making.
  • Perform quantitative analysis, modeling, and valuation to assess commodity positions, hedging strategies, and transaction economics.
  • Develop and maintain reporting, dashboards, and data tools (Power BI, SQL, Excel) to support financial insights, position tracking, and executive reporting.
  • Partner with internal teams to analyze transactions, monitor exposures and receivables, and support cross-functional financial and risk-related initiatives.
  • Maintain robust compliance with Board-established trading policies by monitoring trading floor activity.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Education
A bachelor's degree relevant to the assignment from an accredited institution is required.
Experience

This position may be filled at one of three levels outlined below, based on the candidate's relevant education, experience, or a combination of both that demonstrates the required knowledge, skills, and competencies.

  • Level 1 - Associate: In lieu of a degree, 4 years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience totaling 4 years may be considered.
  • Level 2 - Journey: Minimum 2 years of relevant experience required. In lieu of a degree, 6 years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience totaling 6 years may be considered.
  • Level 3 - Senior: Minimum 5 years of relevant experience required. In lieu of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience totaling 9 years may be considered.

Eligibility for advancement (progression) to the next level in the same role is based on overall job performance, mastery of all functional responsibilities, and time in position, as assessed by the supervisor.

Additional Requirements and Qualifications
  • Strong analytical and modeling capabilities with the ability to translate complex data into clear financial insights.
  • Demonstrated ability to support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes.
  • Understanding of market fundamentals and pricing dynamics, particularly in energy or commodity markets (preferred).
  • Ability to communicate financial concepts and insights effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel; experience with Power BI, SQL, or other data visualization/reporting tools preferred.
  • Analytical experience in Finance, Economics, Engineering, Mathematics, or related fields.

Hybrid Workplace

SRP currently offers a hybrid workplace, which allows employees whose jobs can be performed remotely, and who have sufficient technical capability, to telework up to three days per week. Although teleworking is available, all employees must live and work in Arizona.
