Civil Engineering Staff EIT - Urban Development

Role Description: Huitt-Zollars, Inc. has a full-time opportunity for a Civil Engineering Staff/EIT at our Phoenix office. The Civil Engineering Staff/EIT will work directly with a Professional Engineer to develop professional technical expertise and knowledge necessary to fulfill the experience requirement for licensure as a Professional Engineer. Some experience in Urban Development single-family and multi-family residential developments, commercial and/or industrial site development projects is ideal. Responsibilities for our Civil Engineering Staff/EIT's include drawing/plan preparation of water, sewer, paving, grading and drainage plans for private and public projects. The individual must be capable of and responsible for delivering a quality product in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. Position responsibilities will incrementally increase over time and with experience.


Location: Phoenix, Arizona (Zip code: 85018, in-office with some telecommute opportunities after 1st 90 days)

Education: Completion of Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering (BSCE) or similar

Registration(s): Registered Engineer-In-Training (EIT), or working towards an EIT


Duties:    

  • Prepare construction plans for private and public development projects.
  • Assist civil design team and project managers with of all aspects of land development design or engineer services.
  • Research materials and assemblies for design and construction drawings as directed by supervisor or Project Managers.
  • Assist with construction support activities such as site visits, documenting/tracking change orders, shop drawing review, responding to RFIs, construction detail modifications, punch list preparation, etc.
  • Assist with research for fee proposals and be willing to learn how to prepare proposals.
  • Compose and prepare graphic materials for presentations and documents.
  • Prepare due diligence reports for prospective projects.
  • Prepare quantity take offs and opinions of probable construction cost.

Qualifications:    

  • BS in Civil Engineering (BSCE).
  • More than 1 years of related civil engineering experience.
  • Passed the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam/current EIT certification is a plus.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Powerpoint, Outlook and Excel.
  • Capability to utilize AutoCAD and Civil 3D for design and construction plans.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Good communication skills and work ethic.
  • Works well in a team environment.
  • Thorough attention to detail. 
  • Design experience with underground utilities, paving, grading, and utilities.
  • Experience with producing accurate and complete construction plans and reports.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer, type/key-in data
  • May lift and carry up to 50 pounds, hike up and down steep slopes carrying up to 50 pounds of survey equipment
  • The employee must be able to concentrate on details, work under deadline pressures, apply sound logic and judgment, and prioritize tasks and responsibilities
  • Employee may be asked to walk on uneven terrain
  • May work in extreme weather conditions
  • Bend, squat, dig monument holes, pound in stakes and rebar monuments
  • Carry and use brush cutting equipment
  • May drive survey vehicle
