Job description

JOB DESCRIPTION AND/OR DUTIES

1. Provide expert legal advice on labor and employment, intellectual property, export controls, ethics, government contracts, classification and security, human subjects research, and corporate governance matters.  Conduct internal investigations as necessary and advisable.  

2. Negotiate and provide legal review of contracts and insurance matters.  Make recommendations regarding contract language, contract terms, contract consideration and contract provisions to protect the interest of CNA.  Prepare, draft, review and advise leadership on a wide variety of contractual matters that address the legal aspects of business relationships.  

3. Conduct research and analysis in support of corporate projects involving legal, regulatory, policy, legislative and national and homeland security expertise.  

4. Lead special projects as assigned for the Office of General Counsel.  

5. Draft and review legal and policy documents and correspondence. Work with outside counsel on litigation and other matters.  

6. Represent CNA at conferences and prepare project reports and briefings associated with conference attendance.  

7. Liaise with officials and organizations – both domestic and international – from government, academic, and corporate sectors, as well as other key research institutes and not-for-profits, in support of CNA initiatives.  

8. Advise on planning, pursuit and success related to projects associated with proven area(s) of expertise.  

9. Perform other duties as assigned.  

JOB REQUIREMENTS

1. Education: Bachelor's degree and J.D. required.  

2. Experience: Minimum 12 years’ experience in field(s) of expertise; and experience handling legal matters, dealing with senior corporate officers and government officials, including Members of Congress, and communicating with external parties and stakeholders.  

3. Skills: Must have strong analytical, interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.  Experience independently handling legal matters combined with business acumen.     

4. Other: Ability to obtain and maintain security clearance.

5. Remote/Hybrid Work Eligibility: This position is eligible for telecommuting or hybrid work arrangements at the discretion of the Supervisor.  Employees may be required to work at CNA headquarters or other work locations resulting in changes to the scheduled telecommuting or hybrid work arrangements.
