Job description

You are a Hydrovac Operator with extensive experience supporting utility maintenance and construction projects. With a strong background in the telecommunications industry, you are proficient in safely daylighting, trenching, and digging around utilities, ensuring precise and efficient work while maintaining strict safety standards. Your expertise allows you to navigate complex sites and handle sensitive utilities with confidence.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Daylighting and soft excavating for telecommunication, hydro, gas, and water

  • Ensure health and safety is the number one goal by following policies, Alberta Infrastructure guidelines and acting in a safe manner at all times

  • Perform pre and post trip inspections by following company policies and procedure for routine maintenance, perform general housekeeping to ensure Hydro Vac is clean and operating properly

  • Complete all required paperwork daily

  • Set up and inspect grounding and/or bonding procedures by Hydrovac operation

  • Handle and distribute construction materials, loading and unloading vehicles with supplies, equipment, remove all debris from work sites

Qualifications:

  • 2-3 years of experience operating a Hydro Vac (experience with Rival HVACs is an asset).

  • Proficient in reading and understanding design drawings.

  • Capable of reading locates and identifying discrepancies in the field.

  • DETAC equipotential bonding mat certification is required.

  • Must be NSC (National Safety Code) trained and maintain accurate log books in accordance with regulations and company standards.

  • Previous experience in telecommunications is an asset.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

  • Must have and maintain a valid Class 3 driver's license and be able to provide a clean driver's abstract.

  • Strong knowledge of construction documents.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and collaborate with multiple project stakeholders, interpret their needs, and identify solutions.

  • Successful completion of pre-employment drug & alcohol requirements.

Working Conditions:

  • Able to meet the physical requirements of the position which involves sitting, standing, bending, climbing, lifting up to 50 pounds, and in all types of weather conditions (rain, snow, heat etc.

  • Travel to various sites in the surrounding Calgary, AB area

  • Working outdoors in various weather conditions.
