Company Overview:
Napakiak Environmental and Construction (NEC) is a leading provider of information technology, technology development, and environmental and construction services, specializing in Federal and Commercial projects. Position Overview:
NEC is seeking qualified applicants for an Electrical Engineer position. This position will provide analysis and design support on ORNL electrical infrastructure projects in multiple facilities including High Performance Computing (HPC) facilities. The HPC facilities at ORNL are the largest user of electrical power at ORNL, with over 100MW of installed electrical capacity at 7 separate data centers. These facilities require safe and reliable electric power to support the national security and scientific research missions of ORNL.
The ideal candidate would have 5+ years of experience in a data center construction/renovation or other power and cooling related infrastructure projects.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Job Requirements:
  • Oversee and perform electrical design for HPC facility modifications to support the Oakridge Leadership Computing Facility (OLCF), as well as other HPC customers in the ORNL leased facilities.
  • Oversee and perform electrical design for tenant improvements and laboratory modifications, office modifications, and other customer needs in the ORNL leased facilities.
  • Collaborate with ORNL telecommunications, power utility, and facility automation subject matter experts to ensure complete and coordinated installations.
  • Provide technical input and plan review for changes and upgrades to existing facilities.
  • Provide oversight and support to ORNL operations and maintenance craft and construction subcontractors for facility construction and modifications.
  • Perform on-site inspection and approval of all phases of electrical and telecommunications installations.
  • Collaborate with other ORNL and other contracted disciplines to ensure successful completion of electrical installations.
  • Ensure designs and constructed facilities meet Users' requirements, applicable codes and standards, applicable DOE orders, laboratory safety and quality standards, and leadership objectives.

Required:
Bachelor's degree minimum in electrical engineering from an ABET accredited institution.
  • Minimum 5 years working experience including new construction, renovation, plant operations, power distribution, communications, plant automation and building automation.
  • Demonstrate ability to proficiently communicate in written, verbal, and presentation formats.
Preferred:
  • Experience in all voltage distribution (high voltage needed)
  • Experience in UPS/generator system design
  • Demonstrate proficiency with arc flash modeling software (SKM, eTAP, Easy Power) and application of arc flash calculation methods.
  • Experience in facility controls and automation and SCADA.
  • Demonstrated proficiency performing electrical and related field studies, construction oversight, commissioning and testing, and detailed project milestone tracking.
  • Ability to comply with a standards-based and procedure-driven work environment.
  • Working experience in secure DOE facilities or other related secure environments.
