Job description

Purpose:
Responsible for independently preparing and reviewing high-quality engineering drawings and construction design packages for OSP telecommunications projects, including execution of complex drafting assignments and support for quality control activities. This role serves as a senior technical contributor for the CAD team, providing drafting expertise, mentoring junior drafters, and driving continuous improvement across design and drafting processes.
Responsibilities
  • Create and update a full range of 2D engineering drawings independently - including site plans, floor plans, tower elevations, and grounding plans - using AutoCAD and AutoCAD Civil 3D, to a professional standard with minimal supervision.
  • Train and mentor CAD Drafter I and II colleagues, sharing knowledge and best practices to build team capability.
  • Review completed construction drawings for accuracy and conformance with applicable standards and regulations, providing QC feedback to junior drafters.
  • Confer with design engineers and team members to resolve complex drawing problems and produce construction documents that meet all project requirements.
  • Prepare quantity take-offs independently in a professional and organized manner, contributing to project cost tracking and bid support activities.
  • Complete as-built drawings fully and independently, accurately reflecting final constructed conditions in all project documentation.
  • Fulfill assignments that require independent judgment and evaluation, applying design experience to make sound decisions without escalation.
  • Manage and maintain design records and files to a high standard, ensuring completeness and accuracy for project reference and audit purposes.
  • Participate in technical and professional development activities, contributing knowledge to team learning and continuous improvement.
  • Conduct minimal travel to client sites as needed, typically no more than 10% of time.

Key Measures / Key Performance Indicators:
  • Drawing accuracy, consistently high QC pass rate with minimal revision cycles required
  • As-built drawing completeness and accuracy
  • Mentoring impact, improvement in junior drafter output quality over time
  • Timeliness and reliability of deliverables on assigned project tasks
  • Adherence and contribution to CAD drafting standards and process improvement

Requirements
Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; technical degree in CAD, civil engineering technology, or equivalent preferred. Expert-level proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D required; knowledge of relevant industry and design standards for construction. Knowledge of design programs and industry standards for design and construction.
Experience:
  • 3+ years of AutoCAD Civil 3D experience with at least 2 years working in an engineering environment, with a focus on CAD drafting in a utility or telecom context
  • Experience drafting utility drawings with the ability to work on small design tasks independently
  • Demonstrated experience contributing to technical and professional development of junior staff

Exposure:
  • Solid understanding of relevant industry standards for design and construction of telecom or civil utility infrastructure
  • Proficiency in MS Office suite and strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Familiarity with file types (.dwg, .dgn, .shp, .pdf) and experience with GIS or mapping tools

Factors critical to success at ITG Communications for this position:
  • Senior-level craft and pride in output - consistently producing drawings that need minimal correction and can serve as a quality benchmark for the team
  • Generosity in teaching, sharing expertise with junior drafters in a way that raises overall team capability
  • Proactive problem-solving, identifying and resolving design issues independently, bringing solutions rather than escalations

Physical Requirements
  • Mobility for Travel, Meetings and Site Visits
  • Manual Dexterity for Computer and Phone Use
  • Visual and Hearing Acuity
