Job description

Purpose and Impact:

Amentum is currently seeking aTelecommunications Specialist to join our dynamic team in Glendale, AZ. In this position you'll be a part of a team that maintains and supports our customer's facility by ensuring that the telecommunications systems are fully functional and available for the senior leader's decision support teams. This position requires an active DoD TS/SCI security clearance that has been adjudicated in the last 5 years or designated CE and the ability to obtain and maintain special accesses.

Work Schedule: Work is performed Monday - Friday in office. 8 hours per day. Additionally, there is an on-call requirement that is rotated amongst the team members off shift.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for availability, performance and testing of operational mission capabilities under varying conditions including various IT and RF based voice, video, data systems, networks, services, and information feeds.

  • Operate, maintain, test, analyze, troubleshoot, and restore communications systems and services. Coordinate availability, performance and/or restoration efforts with 3rd party services providers as required.

  • Apply knowledge, training, and expertise to determine appropriate operational course of action and best solution set to implement under varying events and conditions, brief customer on operational status.

  • Set up operate and train users on various voice, video and data networks including radio systems, satellite systems, network architecture and distribution systems.

  • Make tactical decisions and take decisive action in stressed environments to ensure mission objectives are met.

  • Manage dynamic taskings and prioritize workload to meet customer expectations and demand levels under changing situational conditions.

  • Identify and recommend process improvements, efficiency gains and innovative approaches to operations and service delivery to increase customer value.

  • Work with customers to determine operational requirements for future system capabilities; support the design, planning and testing of new systems to meet customer needs; ensure new systems are properly installed and brought on-line for operational use; coordinate installation team efforts to ensure schedules are met and activities are not disruptive to ongoing operations.

  • Ensure proper configuration and change management control are applied and system documentation is current.

  • Successful candidates will receive highly specialized training on unique job responsibilities.

  • Position requires travel or response to alternate locations in support of evolving customer requirements or surge demand.

  • Travel as needed (10-20%).

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:Candidate will be required to: carry up to 50 lbs, sit for extended periods of time at a computer workstation, work under desks, raised floors, and cramped spaces. Work on hot building roofs, dark attics, crawl spaces, and climb ladders to repair/replace devices and organize the cable management.

Minimum Requirements (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):

  • Active DoD TS/SCI security clearance is required withadjudication within the last 5 years or designated CEand the ability to obtain and maintain special accesses.

  • Five (5) years of related experience or any equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.

  • Install horizontal and vertical network and telecommunications infrastructures per industry standards.

  • Experience setting up and troubleshooting network systems, communications circuits and network and telecommunications equipment.

  • Experience making, running, testing cables, performing loopbacks, installing equipment.

  • Experience using VTC equipment.

Security Clearance Required:

  • TS/SCI - This position requires an active DoD TS/SCI security clearance that has been adjudicated in the last 5 years or designated CE and the ability to obtain and maintain special accesses.

Minimum Education:

  • BS degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Telecommunications, Project Management, or related discipline.

Minimum Years of Experience:

  • 5 years

Required Certifications:

  • CompTIA IT Security+ Certification must be obtained within 6 months

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Four (4) years of college in a related technical discipline plus Ten (10) years of related experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • CompTIA IT Security+

  • Experience as a Network and /or Systems Administrator

  • 5-10 years' experience in RF systems including HF, VHF, UHF, EHF, AEHF

  • Experience with cryptographic systems, radio systems, video teleconferencing systems, satellite systems, network architecture and/or inside cable plant distribution systems.

  • Commercial or military certificates of training in RF systems

  • Operational work experience in a military communications career field

  • Understanding of the mid-range computer hardware, software features

  • Training experience - someone we can trust to be able to adequately explain the setup and troubleshooting processes of our equipment.
