Immediate Supervisor: Project Manager, Operations Manager, VP, Owner

Position: Exempt Non-Exempt

Position Summary

Sunrise Telecom, Inc. is seeking a skilled and safety-focused Fiber Splicer to join our growing telecommunications team. This position is responsible for the installation, splicing, testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance of fiber optic cable systems supporting broadband and telecommunications infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate will have experience working in both aerial and underground environments and possess strong technical knowledge of fiber optic systems and industry standards.

Fiber Splicers play a critical role in ensuring high-quality network performance while maintaining Sunrise Telecom’s commitment to safety, professionalism, and customer satisfaction.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Perform fusion splicing of single-mode and multi-mode fiber optic cables
  • Read and interpret fiber matrices, splice schematics, and construction prints
  • Prep, splice, and test fiber optic cables in aerial, underground, and indoor environments
  • Perform OTDR and power meter testing to verify signal quality and troubleshoot issues
  • Install and maintain fiber enclosures, splice cases, terminals, and related hardware
  • Identify and resolve network outages and fiber-related service issues
  • Maintain accurate splice documentation and testing records
  • Ensure all work is completed according to company standards, customer specifications, and safety regulations
  • Operate company vehicles and equipment safely and responsibly
  • Work closely with construction crews, project managers, and field leadership
  • Participate in on-call rotations and emergency restoration work as needed
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment and company vehicle

Qualifications
  • Previous fiber splicing experience preferred
  • Knowledge of telecommunications construction practices and fiber optic systems
  • Ability to read and interpret utility maps, prints, and schematics
  • Experience using fusion splicers, OTDRs, power meters, and related testing equipment
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Must be detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
  • Willingness to travel as needed for projects

Education & Experience
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • CDL preferred but not required
  • Industry certifications are a plus

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds
  • Ability to climb ladders and work in confined spaces
  • Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and work for extended periods
  • Ability to distinguish color-coded fiber cables

Work Environment
  • Outdoor field environment in varying weather conditions
  • May require evenings, weekends, overtime, and travel depending on project needs
  • Safety-sensitive position requiring adherence to all company and customer safety policies
