What You'll Do
As an Outside Fiber Technician, you will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting fiber optic infrastructure while ensuring an outstanding customer experience.
Key Responsibilities
  • Install, test, maintain, and troubleshoot fiber optic systems and networks.
  • Perform fiber cable pulling, routing, suspension, termination, splicing, and testing.
  • Conduct cabling testing, certification, and documentation across various media types.
  • Read network prints and follow color-coded routing and fiber documentation.
  • Diagnose and resolve service issues efficiently and professionally.
  • Ensure all work is completed in compliance with National Electrical Code (NEC) standards, company procedures, and safety regulations.
  • Work closely with fellow technicians and operations teams to deliver reliable service to residential and business customers.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and company vehicles in a safe and professional manner.
  • Provide exceptional customer service at every installation and service location.
  • Assist with additional operational and network support activities as needed.

.Preferred Experience
  • 1+ years of experience in telecommunications, cable, broadband, fiber installation, or related field service work.
  • Experience with fiber optic installations, troubleshooting, testing, and basic splicing.
  • Familiarity with telecommunications construction, outside plant, or structured cabling environments.
  • Knowledge of customer premise equipment, home networking, and internet service installations.
  • Technical school, vocational training, or relevant certifications are a plus.
  • Ability to operate installation and construction tools, including drills, hammer drills, cable cutters, and fiber-related equipment.
  • Basic computer, networking, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to interpret network diagrams, prints, and color-coded routing documentation.

Physical & Work Requirements
  • This position is ideal for individuals who enjoy hands-on work and working outdoors.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record and ability to meet company insurability requirements (inclusive of 3 years of licensed driving experience)
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and environmental conditions.
  • Ability to climb ladders up to 30 feet, hand-climb utility poles using gaffs, and work in confined spaces, including manholes.
  • Regular bending, kneeling, crouching, and working in tight spaces.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and routinely carry up to 25 pounds.
  • Commitment to following all safety procedures and wearing required PPE.

Willingness to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime when needed.

Compensation:
Our job titles may span more than one career level. The starting salary for this position range is between $25.00 - $32.00 an hour. The actual salary offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, education, business needs, market demands and work location. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
