Job description

GDMUX | Full-Time | Nationwide Travel Required (U.S.)

Compensation: Commensurate with Experience + Overtime Eligible

About the Role

GDMUX is hiring Telecom Network Infrastructure Field Test Technicians to join our field services team. In this role, you'll support the provisioning, commissioning, and testing of critical telecom equipment — primarily fiber optic backbone OADM (Optical Add/Drop Multiplexers) and amplifier nodes — largely at carrier Central Office and Data Center locations.

If you have hands-on experience with Ciena, Nokia, or Infinera optical transport platforms, you'll be a top candidate for this position.

About GDMUX

GDMUX is a privately owned company that staffs field resources for telecom operators' network infrastructure projects nationwide. We support:

·      Deployment — surveys, engineering, installation, provisioning/commissioning, and testing

·      Decommissioning

·      Logistics — warehousing, hot staging, and last-mile delivery

·      Migration Support — capacity/software upgrades, MOP creation, and remote maintenance window support

·      Staffing Support — project managers, field/detail engineers, and technical support

·      We build long-term relationships through reliable service and a genuine commitment to our people and our customers. We value our team, respect our clients, and deliver on every commitment we make.

What You'll Do

This role blends installation and testing responsibilities — candidates with strong experience in a subset of these areas will still be considered.

·      Travel extensively to customer locations throughout the United States (valid U.S. state-issued driver's license required)

·      Support installation of telecom network infrastructure equipment and associated system cabling (DC power, ground, DS3, and fiber optic frames/chassis/components)

·      Assist installation technicians in completing projects when needed to meet customer expectations

·      Load and confirm optical network equipment provisioning and commissioning configuration parameters following installation, and validate functionality using optical and data testing equipment

·      Support live OPTS and EMOP procedures for adding new hardware (chassis/shelves, cards, and/or pluggables), including testing to confirm functionality

·      Perform preventative and reactive maintenance on network equipment

·      Conduct circuit testing across a range of standards, including FC-100, FC-200, FC-400, FC-800, 10G, 1GbE, OC-192, OC-3, and OC-48

·      Apply working knowledge of fiber optic cleaning and testing using OTDR and light source/meter equipment

·      Maintain accurate recordkeeping for every job, including daily status reports, redlines, and quality audits

Core Responsibilities

·      Provide and use your own basic hand tools as required for the job

·      Perform high-craftsmanship installation work — securing equipment and running/terminating system cabling at equipment and fuse/breaker panels

·      Communicate clearly and professionally, both in writing and verbally

·      Adapt readily to changing environments and shifting project needs

·      Apply working field knowledge of SONET/DWDM-based systems (a plus)

·      Participate in training and shadowing programs to build expertise on new vendor equipment

·      Manage travel and lodging expenses responsibly, keeping accurate receipts for weekly submission

·      Enter daily electronic timesheets and submit final time and expenses each week

What You Bring

·      Working knowledge of optical and data transport systems

·      Familiarity with telecom industry installation quality standards

·      Physical readiness to lift 50 pounds, climb ladders, and work in live, functioning network environments

·      Strong customer service instincts that deliver a great experience on every project

·      Sharp problem-solving skills and the ability to stay effective in a fast-paced technical environment

·      An analytical, detail-oriented, flexible, and decisive approach to your work

·      Ability to interpret project documentation, work packages, and MOPs accurately

·      Strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask efficiently

·      Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Microsoft Visio, and Adobe Reader

·      Brady labeling experience is a plus

Education & Experience

·      Hands-on experience with Ciena, Nokia, or Infinera hardware strongly preferred

·      1–3 years of related field installation experience supporting Tier I telecommunications carriers and data center deployments.

·      Associate's degree (or higher) in Telecommunications from an accredited university, and/or equivalent related experience, is a plus

Compensation & Benefits

·      Pay: hourly rate commensurate with experience and manufacturer certifications; overtime-eligible based on project needs

·      Health Coverage: Medical, dental, and vision benefits available to qualified candidates

·      Retirement: 401(k) participation

·      Training: Paid training on various vendor products and platforms

GDMUX is committed to building lasting relationships through world-class service. If you're ready to bring precision, reliability, and technical expertise to critical telecom infrastructure projects across the country, we'd love to hear from you.
