Job description

Telecommunications Fiber Optic Network Infrastructure Field Installation Technician

GDMUX | Full-Time | Travel Required (Nationwide, U.S.)

Compensation: Commensurate with Experience + Overtime Eligible

About the Role

GDMUX is hiring Fiber Optic Network Infrastructure Field Installation Technicians to join our growing field services team. In this role, you'll install and support critical telecom equipment — primarily Optical Add/Drop Multiplexers (OADM) and amplifier nodes — that keeps fiber optic backbone networks running across the country.

If you have hands-on experience with Ciena, Nokia, or Infinera hardware, you'll be a top candidate for this position.

About GDMUX

GDMUX (GD Mux) is a privately owned company that staffs field resources for telecom operators' network infrastructure projects nationwide. We support:

·      Deployment — surveys, engineering, installation, provisioning/commissioning, and testing

·      Decommissioning

·      Logistics — warehousing, hot staging, and last-mile delivery

·      Migration Support — capacity/software upgrades, MOP creation, and remote maintenance window support

·      Staffing Support — project managers, field/detail engineers, and technical support

·      We build long-term relationships through reliable service and a genuine commitment to our people and our customers. We value our team, respect our clients, and deliver on every commitment we make.

What You'll Do

·      Install telecom network infrastructure equipment, including system cabling (DC power, ground, DS3, and fiber optic frames/chassis/components)

·      Deliver installation quality that exceeds industry standards, and conduct self-audits on completed work

·      Complete inventory tracking, submit status reports, and follow up on open items daily

·      Travel to customer sites throughout the United States as project needs require

Core Responsibilities

·      Provide and use your own basic hand tools as required for the job

·      Perform high-craftsmanship installation work — securing equipment and running/terminating system cabling at equipment and fuse/breaker panels

·      Interpret project engineering documentation with precision, including equipment placement, cable routing, and label creation for origination/termination points

·      Follow proper ESD (electrostatic discharge) handling procedures for equipment and circuit packs

·      Manage and control installation materials and equipment for each project

·      Communicate proactively with Project Management (internal and customer-facing) on daily activity status

·      Respond quickly and clearly to equipment issues, material shortages, or customer requests

·      Maintain "good housekeeping" standards while working on customer premises

·      Stay current on industry installation and quality standards

·      Deliver excellent customer service on every project

·      Multitask efficiently across preparation, execution, and completion to minimize rework

·      Coordinate with the Materials Coordinator to ensure accurate, efficient shipping of project materials

·      Manage travel and lodging expenses responsibly, keeping accurate receipts for weekly timesheet submission

·      Submit timesheets electronically by the designated weekly deadline.

What You Bring

·      Working knowledge of optical and data transport systems

·      Familiarity with telecom industry installation quality standards

·      Strong customer service instincts, especially in live customer-facing environments

·      Comfort working in or near live, functioning networks

·      Sharp problem-solving skills and the ability to stay effective in a fast-paced technical environment

·      An analytical, detail-oriented, flexible, and decisive approach to your work

·      Ability to read and interpret project documentation accurately

·      Strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask efficiently

·      Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Microsoft Visio, and Adobe Reader

·      Brady labeling experience is a plus

Education & Experience

·      1–3 years of related field installation experience

·      Hands-on experience with Ciena, Nokia, or Infinera hardware strongly preferred

·      Associate's degree in Telecommunications from an accredited university is a plus

Compensation & Benefits

·      Pay: hourly rate commensurate with experience, training/certifications. Overtime-eligible based on project needs

·      Health Coverage: Medical, dental, and vision benefits available to qualified candidates

·      Retirement: 401(k) participation

·      Training: Paid training on various vendor products and platforms

GDMUX is committed to building lasting relationships through world-class service. If you're ready to bring precision, reliability, and craftsmanship to critical telecom infrastructure projects across the country, we'd love to hear from you.
