Description of Role

SRI Telecom is seeking an experienced Outside Plant (OSP) Technician to support the installation, maintenance, and repair of telecommunication infrastructure, including fiber optic and copper cables, splice enclosures, poles, and network interface devices (NIDs). This role requires proficiency in fiber optic splicing, including aerial splicing, troubleshooting, and adherence to industry safety standards. The ideal candidate will work closely with OSP engineering teams and network specialists to ensure optimal network performance and reliability. Candidates must be comfortable working in outdoor environments, often in physically demanding conditions.

Tasks:

  • Perform fiber optic splicing and termination, including aerial splicing using bucket trucks and climbing gear.
  • Install, maintain, and repair outside plant infrastructure, including aerial and underground fiber optic and copper cabling.
  • Conduct troubleshooting and diagnostics using OTDRs, power meters, and cable testers to resolve connectivity issues.
  • Adhere to safety protocols, including OSHA regulations, proper PPE usage, and safe digging/trenching practices.
  • Document work completed, including installations, repairs, and network configurations, ensuring accurate records for project tracking.
  • Work collaboratively with internal teams, including OSP engineers, network technicians, and project managers, to support system upgrades and maintenance.

Skills & Responsibilities:

  • Expertise in fiber optic splicing, including aerial splicing and termination.
  • Strong knowledge of telecommunications infrastructure, including fiber optic and copper networks.
  • Ability to work at heights, including climbing utility poles and working in bucket trucks for aerial installations.
  • Physical ability to lift 80 pounds, stand for extended periods, and work in confined spaces.
  • Understanding of RF and optical testing equipment, with the ability to troubleshoot and repair circuits.
  • Knowledge of structured cabling standards and safe installation practices.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to work independently.
  • Excellent problem-solving and technical communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and data analysis tools for reporting and documentation.
