Job Title: Youth Minister Status: Part Time
Exemption Status: Non-exempt Salary Grade: 20
Department/Location: Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish / Florence. AZ
Primary Function: Under the direction of the Pastor, is responsible for assisting in the management of the Youth Ministry program for a Parish. The employee shall be a minister of the Gospel and Catholic Teaching both academically and behaviorally while at work and in his/her personal life, "...Live in a manner worthy of the call you have received." (Eph. 4:1)
Essential Duties and Responsibilities of this Ministerial Position:
  • Recognize and support the unique Catholic Mission of the Diocese by speaking, acting, and instructing consistent with the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church. The teacher may not espouse, in word or deed, any doctrine inconsistent with the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.
  • Give evidence of living Gospel values by being an active member of a faith community and being open to the importance of a personal faith journey; strive to model the teaching of Jesus by attitude and example.
  • Evangelization & Program Leadership
    • Cultivate a vibrant environment where teens encounter Jesus Christ throughout the Sacraments, authentic community, solid catechesis, and missionary discipleship.
    • Rooted in the model and spirituality of Life Teen International, the Youth Minister will serve as a joyful witness of the Gospel, accompanying teens (grades 0-12) as they grow in faith and become active members of the Church.
    • Plan and implement weekly Sunday Life Nights, annual retreats, service projects, and social events
    • Coordinate youth participation in Sunday Mass
    • Provide engaging catechesis faithful to the teachings of the Catholic Church
    • Create a clear pathway of discipleship for teens from freshman through senior year
  • Discipleship & Pastoral Care
    • Build authentic mentoring relationships with teens through relational ministry
    • Foster teen leadership development
    • Encourage frequent participation in the Sacraments
    • Support and collaborate with parents as primary educators of their children in the faith
  • Volunteer Recruitment & Formation
    • Recruit, train, and lead adult Core Team members
    • Provide ongoing spiritual formation and leadership development for volunteers
    • Ensure all volunteers meet Diocese of Tucson Safe Environment requirements
  • Administration & Collaboration
    • Maintain youth ministry calendar, communications, and budget
    • Coordinate logistics for events, retreats, and conferences
    • Communicate effectively through parish communication channels and social media
    • Collaborate closely with parish clergy, staff, and diocesan offices

Required Activities
  • Walking; sitting; standing; stooping; reaching; talking; handling; hearing; carrying; and keyboarding.

Basic Qualifications:
  • A working knowledge of and a strong commitment to the mission of fostering lay leadership in the Roman Catholic Church. If a baptized Catholic, must be a practicing Roman Catholic in full communion with the Church.
  • Excellent communication skills including written, verbal, and public speaking and presentation skills.
  • Punctuality is a must, with an ability to travel locally as required
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends.
  • Must have excellent human relations and interpersonal skills; must be a self-starter and be well-organized; must be a team player.
  • Proficiency with information technology; Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • The ability to successfully complete a criminal history and background check.
  • Professional bearing and clean and neat personal appearance

Education and Experience:
  • A bachelor's degree in business or public administration or a related field or equivalent experience
  • At least one year's experience in a Catholic environment as a youth minister
  • Level 1 catechetical training
  • Strong knowledge of Catholic theology and youth evangelization
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and relational skills
  • Must meet Diocese of Tucson Safe Environment and background screening requirements

Other/Preferred Skills:
  • Familiarity with the Life Teen model preferred
  • Level 2 Catechetical training
  • Deep personal prayer life and love for the Eucharist
  • Passion for forming missionary disciples
  • Energetic, approachable, and culturally aware
  • Strong communicator and team builder
  • Creative, adaptable, and self-motivated
  • Bi-lingual, Spanish-English is preferred
