Job description

THE COMPANY:

We specialize in advanced earth retention systems and other innovative geostructural techniques that create stable, lasting foundations for buildings, infrastructure, and other critical structures. At Schnabel, we combine technical expertise with a hands-on approach to ensure every project starts on solid ground.

ROLE:

Schnabel is seeking a construction laborer to assist with the building of specialty underground structures. As a Geotechnical General Laborer you will operate hand and power tools of all types: air hammers, earth tampers, cement mixers, small mechanical hoists, surveying and measuring equipment, and a variety of other equipment and instruments.

Our typical scope of work includes installation of piles, lagging, walers, tiebacks, and braces for support of excavation projects. We also take on challenging projects with underpinning, grouting, tunneling, and unique structural support as part of our scope. Candidates having direct construction experience and familiarity with our company’s traditional scope of work are preferred.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Signal equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement, or adjustment of machinery, equipment, or materials (signaling).
  • Control traffic passing near, in, or around work zones (roadway flagging).
  • Load, unload, or identify building materials, machinery, or tools, distributing them to the appropriate locations, according to project plans or specifications (rigging).
  • Dig, trim, clean and prepare piles, then install and backfill for hard wood lagging.
  • Dig, trim, ring and backfill for underpinning pits, place and vibrate concrete, mix sand-cement and dry-pack for underpinning piers.
  • Mix Portland cement grout and other materials.
  • Tend machines that pump grout or concrete as well as, apply shotcrete through spray nozzles for application to walls.
  • Lubricate, clean, or repair grout pumps, mixers or other machinery, equipment, or tools
  • Smooth or finish freshly poured cement or concrete, using floats, trowels, screeds, or powered cement finishing tools.
  • Dig ditches or trenches, backfill excavations, compact and level earth, use picks, shovels, pneumatic tampers, or rakes as necessary.
  • Chucktend for heavy equipment operations such as soldier pile or tieback drilling.
  • Exposure to outdoor weather conditions, noise, and dust.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • 6 months of construction labor work experience or a certificate from a training program.
  • Underpinning experience (not required but preferred).
  • Lagging experience (not required but preferred).
  • ASCI Nozzleman certification (not required but preferred).
  • Ability to pass pre-employment drug test.
  • Local and regional travel as required for projects.
  • Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds of materials over rough terrain.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Driver’s license, reliable transportation, and a safe driving record.
  • Follow all safety procedures, use proper protective equipment, and help maintain a safe job site by identifying and reporting potential hazards.
