About the Job

Program Assistants play a crucial role in supporting after-school enrichment programs, including the Afterschool (k-5) and Teen Programs (6-12). Collaborating with the Resident Engagement Specialist on site, the Program Assistant will assist in the implementation of educational and recreational activities for children, youth, and parents in a multifamily apartment community.

This part-time position requires availability from approximately 2:00-8:00 pm 2 days a week and 2;00-6:00 pm twice a week (Monday-Thursday;) and admin hours on Fridays during the APS academic year, on early release days program will start at 12pm. This position is full time for 6 weeks in the summer during summer camp.

Job responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: 

Planning and Implementing Programs

  1. Assists in planning and preparing materials for educational and recreational activities for children, youth, and parents. 

During Programs

  1. Provides a healthy snack for children in the Afterschool Program. 
  1. Assists students with homework and to complete educational activities.
  1. Oversees after-school activities for elementary and teen students.  - taking the lead when other site staff are sick or on vacation
  1. Maintains good discipline by supporting a behavior management program.

Maintaining Community Spaces

  1. Ensures the community room is set up before and cleaned after the program. 

Other

  1. Collaborates willingly and cooperatively on tasks beyond regular duties. 

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent. 
  • Experience and desire to work with elementary or secondary-aged children and teens. 
  • Experience with literacy or tutoring. 
  • Spanish fluency a plus. 
  • Ability to interact with a diverse population of students from varied economic and cultural backgrounds. 
  • Self-motivated and mission driven. 
  • Collaborative work style with colleagues and stakeholders across diverse cultures and backgrounds. 
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
