Job description

We are looking for a kind, patient, and dependable support person for our 23-year-old son with autism in South Orange County. This position is ideal for someone with experience supporting teens or adults with autism who enjoys building meaningful connections and helping individuals thrive in the community and at home.

Schedule:
• Weekdays daytime hours
• Some occasional weekend availability preferred

About Our Son:
Our son is intelligent, creative, funny, and highly visual. He communicates through videos, music, writing, drawing, and favorite movie quotes. He is an incredible artist who can draw cartoon characters without lifting his pen and has a deep knowledge of animated movies, TV characters, animals, and music. He loves Spotify playlists, YouTube clips, the zoo, gardening, swimming, walking, bowling, and spending time with trusted people.

Our son uses his iPhone as an important communication and emotional regulation tool. Building trust, helping him feel safe, and understanding his communication style are essential parts of this role.

Responsibilities Include:
• Supporting simple meal prep and healthy eating routines
• Encouraging hydration and medication routines using Google Tasks
• Prompting toileting and personal care routines
• Running baths/showers as needed
• Going on walks and participating in community activities
• Engaging in preferred activities at home and in the community
• Supporting laundry skills and independence with daily living tasks
• Encouraging communication of needs, feelings, and physical discomfort
• Providing companionship, structure, and calm support

Important Support Needs:
Our son experiences significant GERD and discomfort episodes, so maintaining consistent hydration, safe foods, snacks, and calm routines is very important. He can become anxious when his mom is away and benefits greatly from patient, reassuring support from someone willing to learn his communication style.

The ideal candidate:
• Has experience with autism support
• Understands or is willing to learn visual communication styles
• Is calm, observant, and emotionally attuned
• Has experience with ABA, PRT, visual schedules, or task analysis preferred
• Enjoys creative activities, music, walks, animals, and community outings
• Is reliable, compassionate, and able to build trust over time

This is a wonderful opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the life of a bright and creative young adult while becoming part of a caring and supportive family team.
