Job description

Role Description: The IT Specialist supports authorized museum information


technology, gallery systems, public-facing connectivity, and digital infrastructure while

complying with Coast Guard cybersecurity and access-control requirements.

Required Qualifications:

Education: A bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a

related field.

Experience: Three (3) to six (6) years of systems-administration or technical-

support experience. Experience in a museum, library, gallery, public attraction, or

other high-uptime environment is preferred.

Certifications: Industry standard certifications including CompTIA A+, Network+,

or Security+. Cloud certifications (AWS/Azure) or Google Workspace

Administration are highly valued.

Technical Stack: Proficiency in managing both Windows and macOS

environments.

Knowledge and Experience:

Network Infrastructure: Hands-on experience with VLANs, VPNs, and robust Wi-

Fi mesh networks capable of handling hundreds of concurrent museum guests.

Cybersecurity: Knowledge of threat mitigation, firewalls, and data encryption to

protect sensitive data and intellectual property.

Cloud Hybrid Systems: Experience managing cloud storage and SaaS

platforms used for museum operations.

Hardware Maintenance: Ability to troubleshoot and repair a wide range of

hardware, from workstations to gallery projectors.

Highly Desirable Skills:

Digital Asset Management (DAM): Familiarity with specialized archiving and

collection databases.

AV Integration: Ability to bridge the gap between pure IT and gallery tech (e.g.,

syncing multi-screen video walls or interactive touch tables).

Disaster Recovery: Established methodology for data restoration in the event of

system failures or cyber incidents.

Staff Training: Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical personnel and

volunteers without overwhelming technical jargon.

Duties and Responsibilities:

System Administration Security:

Network Uptime: Monitor and maintain internal and public networks to ensure

reliable connectivity.


Data Protection: Perform approved backup, restoration, and data-protection

tasks for systems within the Contractor’s assigned scope.

Access Management Support: Process and track authorized account

requests, permissions, onboarding, and off-boarding through Government-

approved procedures. The Contractor shall not grant access outside

delegated authority.

Gallery and Event Technical Support: Provide technical support for gallery

systems and approved museum events, including presentation, streaming,

lighting-control, and related systems within the assigned scope.

Interactive Maintenance: Work with the Exhibits Tech and AV Media Specialist

to ensure digital displays, sensors, and interactive components remain

functional.

Event Tech: Support events with live-streaming configurations, lighting control

setups, or AV presentations.

Visitor Wi-Fi: Manage the visitor portal to ensure a smooth guest experience

while maintaining physical isolation from secure internal databases.
