Must-Have:
- Completion of a Surgical Technology Program.
- Associate's Degree.
Description:
Functions as a member of the surgical team under the direction of the registered nurse.
Performs scrub functions and other roles that support the perioperative plan of care.
Assures the provision of comfort, safety, and quality perioperative care for the patient.
Demonstrates knowledge of operative procedures including draping, instrumentation, suture, and equipment.
Ability to aseptically set up and keep mayo and back table organized throughout the procedure.
Ability to correctly count and account for all required items prior to, during, and following the procedure.
Ability to anticipate the needs of the surgeon.
Accountable in checking instrumentation, equipment, and supplies prior to use in a procedure.
Knowledgeable of specific uses of all equipment and supplies used for surgical procedures.
Seeks out information and support for areas of knowledge deficit prior to use.
Ability to plan, prepare, and function in emergency situations.
Has the room ready prior to the time for the scheduled case.
Minimizes turnover by assisting and preparing for the next case.
Demonstrates knowledge of and utilizes principles of aseptic technique including gowning, gloving, sterilization, and disinfection.
Assesses safety and safe mechanical condition of equipment and reports any malfunction.
Demonstrates competency in handling, identifying, and labeling medications on the sterile field.
Properly disposes of sharps, such as needles, blades, and wires.
Assists in proper cleaning, moving, and storage of equipment.
Demonstrates knowledge of sterilization and disinfection techniques.
Demonstrates proper cleanliness of instrumentation prior to disinfection and sterilization.
Corrects situations in support of surgical conscience as appropriate.
Actively participates in unit activities to demonstrate teamwork.
Exhibits a positive attitude and a willingness to accept and carry out assignments.
Cooperates and collaborates with team members.
Attends staff meetings or reads meeting minutes.
Participates in the orientation of new staff or students.
Submits updates to preference cards to service coordinators.
Keeps abreast of current advancements in the operating room.
Attends all required safety training programs.
Able to describe responsibilities related to safety.
