What is a technology project manager?

Technology Project Managers are professionals responsible for planning, executing, and overseeing technology-related projects within an organization. They coordinate cross-functional teams, manage budgets, set timelines, and ensure that project goals align with business objectives. Their role involves identifying project requirements, managing risks, and communicating progress to stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery. Technology Project Managers often work with software development, IT infrastructure, or digital transformation initiatives.

How does a technology project manager typically balance technical and stakeholder communication responsibilities?

As a Technology Project Manager, you’ll regularly bridge the gap between technical teams and non-technical stakeholders. This means translating complex technical concepts into clear, actionable updates for clients, executives, or cross-functional partners while ensuring your technical team receives precise requirements and timely feedback. Effective communication is key—expect to facilitate meetings, manage expectations, resolve misunderstandings, and regularly update all parties on project status. This balance is crucial for keeping projects on track and ensuring alignment across teams.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a technology project manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Technology Project Manager, you need a solid background in project management methodologies, technical acumen, and often a bachelor’s degree in a related field. Familiarity with project management tools like Jira, Trello, or Microsoft Project, and certifications such as PMP or Agile/Scrum are typically required. Strong leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills help manage cross-functional teams and stakeholder expectations. These competencies ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and meet business objectives in a dynamic tech environment.

Presidio, Where Teamwork and Innovation Shape the Future

At Presidio, we're at the forefront of a global technology revolution, transforming industries through cutting-edge digital solutions and next-generation AI. We empower businesses - and their internal customers - to achieve more through innovation, automation, and intelligent insights.

The Role

Presidio is looking for Senior Project Managers with experience leading all aspects of IT projects including project scope, schedule, resources, quality, costs, and change control. Presidio PMs work directly with the project team, clients, and partners to lead and ensure successful project delivery within scope, on time and within budget. Senior Project Managers are expected to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization and project teams, while acting as trusted advisors to our clients — bringing a consultative mindset, business insight, and a customer-first approach to every engagement.

Presidio is seeking a customer-facing Senior Project Manager experienced with managing AWS, GCP, Azure Cloud Infrastructure and DevOps client projects.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Manage expectations and requirements of multiple project stakeholders (to include internal, partner and customer sponsors and stakeholders).
  • Plan and implement IT solution development projects.
  • Close collaboration and alignment with the delivery and sales team leadership to drive consistent business value for our customers and support the overall business goals and strategy of Presidio.
  • Build and maintain schedules (with knowledge of relevant tools).
  • Lead resolution of issues/escalations related to budget, schedule, and scope.
  • Oversee the activities of various stakeholders (Scrum meetings, project meetings, technical deep dive sessions, etc.).
  • Ensure deadlines and cost targets are met and escape to Presidio leadership when necessary.
  • Maintain detailed, comprehensive project documentation and reports using project management tools.
  • Serve as a liaison between the business and technical aspects of projects.
  • Lead cross-functional, virtual, and offshore teams.
  • Develop comprehensive project plans to track project tasks, schedule, risks, and issues to be shared with the project team and client team.
  • Ensure that projects align with Presidio overall strategic objectives.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to clients — guiding them through business challenges, clarifying desired outcomes, and shaping project delivery to drive measurable value.
  • Foster a consultative partnership with customers by understanding their business objectives, proactively identifying opportunities, and ensuring solutions align with strategic goals.
  • Champion a customer-first approach across all project phases — ensuring every decision, communication, and milestone contributes to client satisfaction and long-term relationship success.

Business Scope:

  • The Senior Project Manager will be a key piece of the Project Management Office for the Cloud Services practice of Presidio.
  • This team manages and drives our Cloud Services most critical, complex, and enterprise level projects for our clients in the Healthcare, Financial Services, Retail, Technology, and Energy industries.
  • The Senior Project Manager will deliver professional service projects in the Cloud Infrastructure and DevOps spaces, requiring a deep understanding of the Application Stack, Agile processes, technical project delivery, and Cloud (Amazon Web Services & Azure).
  • The Senior Project Manager and this division serves as a critical liaison between technical teams, client stakeholders, business development, and solutions architecture team members.

Technical Scope:

  • The Senior Project Manager will be supporting technical teams working with the latest cutting-edge technologies in the Cloud Infrastructure and DevOps spaces.
  • The Senior Project Manager supports a large Cloud and DevOps team delivering automation, assessments, cloud builds, application migrations, and workshops (Cloud and DevOps).
  • The Senior Project Manager must have an understanding of Amazon Web Services (AWS) and/or Azure cloud technologies, and how application stacks in the cloud.
  • The Senior Project Manager will have to effectively communicate timelines, key performance indicators, agile scrum standups and sprints, and delivery timelines from the Presidio development team to the client stakeholders.

Required Skills and Professional Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience and/or military experience
  • 7+ years of experience in IT project management and general IT consulting.
  • Ability to manage Agile/Scrum/Kanban/Waterfall (Depending on client environment) processes to effectively deliver new applications and app modernization projects.
  • Proficient in Confluence, Jira and Microsoft Project for project goal and timeline tracking.
  • Familiarity with Azure DevOps, Smartsheet, Trello, Teamwork, Zoho and similar project management toolsets to manage project tracking, key performance indicators, project budget, resources, and timelines.
  • Experience working with the Microsoft Office suite of tools (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and SharePoint).

Preferred Skills and Professional Experience:

  • PMP or similar professional certification.
  • CSM or similar professional certification.
  • AWS Cloud Practitioner or similar certification.
  • Azure Fundamentals or similar certification.
  • Experience leading projects which leverage AWS and/or Azure technologies.
  • Strong time management, analytical, communication, thought leadership, team building, motivational and customer service skills.
  • Excellent client-facing communication and relationship building skills.
  • Ability to learn quickly, adapt to change and have ownership of staying up-to-date on current and emerging technologies and tools as they relate to our business and project needs.
  • Demonstrated consultative mindset – able to understand client challenges, connect technology solutions to business outcomes, and serve as a trusted advisor throughout the engagement.
  • Customer-first orientation – consistently prioritizes client success, builds empathy-driven relationships, and proactively drives alignment across stakeholders to ensure an exceptional experience.
  • Passion, creativity, energy, and enthusiasm towards collaborating on the exciting growth and development of our company.
