What is the Opportunity?

The position is responsible for the planning and successful delivery of long term and / or complex technology programs in a specific business unit while leading matrixed program team members that are each responsible for elements therein. This includes building technology programs, governance structures and delivery plans to enable fulfillment of articulated business goals. Role is instrumental in driving and tracking project activities, schedule, scope, and budget, as well as negotiating changes in plans and effective communication with all stakeholders across multiple workstreams. Success of technology program outcomes will be measured by the degree with which the initiative was delivered within timeline expectations, budget and scope and its alignment with program goals.

WHAT WILL YOU DO?

  • Independently oversee multiple concurrent, large-scale technology programs with enterprise-wide impact, from ideation to implementation to post launch evaluation, using broad and extensive input from industry and/or business unit subject matter experts

  • Design and implement robust program governance frameworks, including steering committees, risk management protocols, and stakeholder engagement strategies.

  • Influences strategic direction and develops tactical plans with substantial latitude

  • Lead the evaluation of emerging technologies (e.g., AI, cloud, cybersecurity) to drive proof-of-concepts to future-proof the technology stack or to select the solution which impacts critical Bank units or functions

  • Independently identify and negotiate technical dependencies across multiple internal and vendor teams to remove roadblocks and facilitate agile development.

  • Provide comprehensive solutions to complex problems and have extensive contact with internal clients and business.

  • Independently manage multi-million-dollar budgets, optimize resource allocation, and negotiate with vendors and partners to maximize ROI.

  • Proactively identify risks, develop mitigation strategies, provide effective mitigation strategies and assign contingency action plans to both schedules and budgets

  • Participate in long-range planning and development of application or product roadmaps with business leaders, architects, and global teams to align technology roadmaps with RBC's strategic priorities

  • Independently craft and deliver compelling narratives to senior leadership, translating technical complexities into clear business outcomes.

  • Interfaces with all levels of management throughout the bank

  • Manage programs and teams, including applying established methodologies, using change control templates and processes; managing time and recording activities using defined scheduling tools; monitoring budgets; coordinating resource acquisition and utilization; serving as a liaison with internal customers and external suppliers; and communicating regularly with project stakeholders.

  • Contribute effectively to the collective team effort and offer ideas and solutions to complex problems

  • Recognized as a trusted mentor and leader throughout the bank and is a credible role model to junior staff and peers

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO SUCCEED?

Must Haves

  • Minimum 10 years' experience with project/program management methodologies, project management tools and techniques across all project activities along with Bachelor's degree or equivalent education in a relevant field

  • Minimum 5 years' experience managing complex, large-scale technology programs; be able to manage highly complex technology programs involving large, cross functional teams

  • Expert level skills in financial & stakeholder management; the role will require presenting to Sr. leaders.

  • Strong foundational understanding of system architecture, microservices, cloud infrastructure, or related technologies relevant to the product

  • Understanding of data pipelines, databases, enterprise data architectures and, data migration strategies across modern platforms

  • Experience with go-to-market (GTM) preparedness reviews, feature validation, and post-launch retrospectives to ensure commercial and operational success.

  • Excellent presentation skills with a demonstrated ability to articulate and clearly communicate complex problems and solutions in a simple and logical manner

  • Well-developed analytical skills and demonstrated ability to provide clarity to complex issues and synthesize large amounts of information

  • Must be able to create highly complex MS Project plans, MS PowerPoint decks and Excel workbooks

Nice to Haves:

  • Agile Scrum Master Certification preferred and/or 2 years of Agile Scrum Master experience

  • Banking or financial industry experience to support the design and/or vendor product selection to solve corporate wide issues or enhancements
