Compensation Overview
The annual base salary range provided for this position is a nationwide market range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across the country. The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment. As part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program, employees are also eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards.

What Is the Opportunity?
Travelers is seeking a Technology Operations Engineer I to join our Cross-Platform Problem Management organization as we grow and transform our Enterprise Technology Solutions organization. Our Technology Operations Engineers help ensure the reliability, scalability, and performance of critical systems through a combination of software engineering and infrastructure expertise. Technology Operations Engineers are responsible for building and maintaining automated solutions to manage system availability, incident response, monitoring, and capacity planning. These roles will collaborate closely with development teams, product owners, infrastructure, and operations teams to implement best practices and technical solutions to drive continuous improvement in service health while reducing operational toil and increasing deployment velocity.   • Responsible for performing analysis, design, and implementation of reliability-focused infrastructure, services, and tooling across cloud and on-premises environments with a high degree of accuracy.

Technical Execution:
  • Conduct root cause analyses for service disruptions, identifying opportunities for prevention and improvement in service restoration.
  • Leverage AI capabilities to streamline identification of potential problems, trends, and solutions
  • Define and implement technical requirements for infrastructure provisioning, monitoring, and deployment using Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) methodologies.
  • Design and enhance CI/CD pipeline workflows to improve deployment automation, rollback safety, and service reliability while resolving infrastructure issues of intermediate complexity.
  • Configure and optimize cloud-based and on-premises systems to ensure high availability, performance, and operational resilience.
  • Implement and maintain monitoring, alerting, and incident response systems while ensuring adherence to security protocols in both cloud and on-premises deployments.
  • Work independently on well-scoped SRE engineering problems while prioritizing tasks in alignment with business objectives.
  • Collaborate with software, platform, and infrastructure engineers to improve system reliability, scalability, and performance across hybrid environments.
What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?
Technical Expertise & Education:
  • 3 years of site reliability/systems administration experience preferred.
  • 8+ years of experience in network engineering, supporting large-scale hybrid cloud environments, including AWS. Ability to independently troubleshoot service disruptions and implement change through, but not limited to LAN/WAN, Load Balancing, Routing, Switching, Firewalls, DNS, and Network Security Bundles.
  • Foundation in ITIL methodologies preferred
  • Experience in ServiceNow a plus
  • Domain Expertise - Demonstrated track record of reliability expertise including the ability to understand system reliability concepts necessary to do the job effectively, demonstrate willingness, cooperation, and concern for business issues, and possess in-depth knowledge of immediate systems worked on.

Strategic & Business Acumen:
  • Delivery - Intermediate delivery skills including the ability to deliver reliability work at a steady, predictable pace to achieve commitments, decompose reliability assignments into small batch deployments, and contribute to reliability architecture tradeoff and negotiation discussions.
  • Problem Solving - Proven problem-solving skills including system debugging abilities, allowing you to determine source of issues in unfamiliar systems or environments, ability to recognize and solve repetitive reliability problems proactively and permanently, recognize mistakes using them as learning opportunities, and break down large reliability problems into smaller, more manageable ones.

  • Strong communication skills that enable clear, concise interactions with team members and stakeholders. Your ability to document work in an accessible manner, ask clarifying questions on requirements, and actively listen ensures seamless collaboration. What is a Must Have?
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, related STEM field, or its equivalent in work experience plus 2 years of technology operations or related engineering experience.
